Historical Traces between the Water Castle and the Chateau

Červené Janovice combines prominent historical landmarks with a waterside destination. A masonry bridge, ramparts, and other remains at Červené Janovice Chateau mark the site of a former water castle dating from the 14th century. The castle courtyard features surviving Renaissance arcades, now glazed. Medieval defensive remains and the representative architecture of later centuries thus meet in one place – a worthwhile focus for anyone who wants to discover not only the landscape but also historical details during their travels.

The development of the chateau reaches further back into history. According to various sources, the former fortress was converted into a magnificent chateau in 1600 by Karel Bretani, a stucco artist from the Vlach region.

The window behind the altar also had its original Gothic form. The new church was consecrated on October 15, 1911, by Bishop Th.Dr. Josef Doubrava. A smaller but particularly vivid detail is the statue of the young fisherman at Na Městečku. It has stood there for more than 100 years and was carved from Hořice sandstone in 1911. In 2025, the statue was professionally restored and returned to its pedestal. Its origin, age, and restoration give the motif a traceable story that fits well as a standalone discovery when researching the area.
