Kašava between Valley, Nature and History

Kašava is located in the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park and in the deep valley of the Dřevnice. The village combines trails, viewpoints and a remarkable cultural history. The natural monument Nad Kašavou is located in the cadastral area of Kašava. It protects the habitat of a mesophilous oat-grass meadow, that is, a meadow landscape with medium moisture levels. Rare plants and animals can be found in this area, including the common wall lizard, the red-backed shrike and the Eurasian golden oriole. Another characteristic landscape feature is Vrzavé skály, which offers a view southwest towards the Vizovické vrchy, the water surface of the Slušovická reservoir and the Kašava valley.

Educational Trail and Paths with Different Focal Points

The Naučná stezka Kašava educational trail is 17.5 km long and has 11 stations, 2 seats, 32 signposts and 14 Stations of the Cross. Its subject matter extends far beyond local history alone. There you can learn about the parish system, the school, traditions, folklore and customs, as well as motorsport, the vanished settlement of Janůvky and the crash of an American bomber in 1944.

The educational trail also takes you past a pond. Anyone wishing to combine the landscape with a distinctive viewpoint can include Vrzavé skály in their route. A descent through the forest from Vrzavé skály leads past the Liduška spring and continues on the return route towards Kašava. From the upland meadow near Vinohrádek, you can see the Vizovické vrchy and the summit of Doubrava with its television transmitter and lookout tower.

The Stations of the Cross also climb uphill towards Vinohrádek above Kašava. It is lined with 14 traditional biblical stations, follows a yellow hiking trail marking and comes close to the educational trail’s second station near Vinohrádek. A hiking trail through Kašava also passes the Chapel of Our Lady, Queen, at Vinohrádek.

The Church of St. Catherine as a Historic Centre

The “kostel sv. Kateřiny” church in Kašava is a protected cultural monument. The existence of the church and its right of patronage are documented in the land registers for the year 1480; Saint Catherine was chosen as its patron saint. The new Baroque stone church was founded in 1745 and is a Baroque building from the period before the middle of the 18th century.
