Zárubice combines village history with a pond landscape and several ways to explore the surrounding area by bicycle or on foot. For families who enjoy alternating between culture, waterscapes and active excursions while on holiday, the town offers various points of interest: the focus is on historical landmarks, the Klárka pond lies behind the town, and signposted cycle routes pass through Zárubice.

Village Green and Traces of Local History

The small bell tower of Zárubice was built in 1846 and stands amid the preserved, picturesque village green. It is therefore a distinctive reference point in the historic centre of the town. The monument to the victims of the First World War, erected in 1929, is also part of the town’s history. In the foreground is a statue of a weeping woman, giving the monument a clearly recognisable sculptural design. The former school building of Zárubice was built in 1898. Part of the former school building was used as an inn and cultural hall. Sculptural façade decorations in the form of small squares above windows and gates were typical of the traditional houses of Zárubice. These details give the town’s history a tangible architectural dimension that differs from mere dates.

Pond Landscape on the Road to Hrotovice

Behind Zárubice, on the road towards Hrotovice, lies Klárka pond, which is commonly called Zárubický or “Podevsí”. It covers 5.2 hectares and is one of the largest ponds in the Třebíč District. Zárubický pond is used for recreational purposes and complements the historic centre with a landscape-oriented area. A structured littoral zone was created at the far end of Zárubický pond. This refers to a structured shoreline area intended to support the development of wetland plants and animals. For travel planning, this documents another distinctly nature-oriented aspect of Zárubice without limiting the town to just one type of experience.

Cycling, Hiking and Regional Excursions

Long-distance cycle route 401, which is signposted, passes through Zárubice. Local cycle routes in the surrounding forests connect to this route. The “The Farmer’s Trail from Hrotovice to Jaroměřice” also passes through Zárubice. The route runs through Odunec and Zárubice to the Na Skalným forest complex, thereby connecting the town with a regional cycling excursion option. The history of Toulavé kolo is also connected with explorations of the surrounding area. In spring 2004, Toulavé kolo began exploring the nearby surroundings on bicycle excursions, including the vanished medieval settlement of Mstěnice near Hrotovice. Since 2006, excursions have also taken place under the auspices of Toulavé kolo as part of the so-called “Bláznivý týden”. Sporting and social events for children and adults take place regularly in Zárubice at the beginning of the school holidays. The Zárubičtí chodci group also decided to follow Toulavé kolo’s example and undertake excursions in the surrounding area on foot. Thus, alongside cycling, communal activities and walks are also among the documented aspects of the town. For further orientation in the same regional area, you can also find Lipník, Číchov, Studnice, Dědice, Krahulov, Nový Telečkov, Budkov and Radošov.
