Nový Telečkov – Round Village, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Nový Telečkov
An Unusual Village in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands
Nový Telečkov lies in the eastern part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and reveals its distinctive character right in the village center. The village features a round-village layout that is rare in the Czech Republic: the houses are arranged around the central village square. This form makes Nový Telečkov a destination for anyone who wants to discover a distinctive villagescape in addition to the surrounding landscape. Instead of a loosely scattered collection of buildings, you will find a clearly recognizable village structure whose center shapes the way around the village.
In the center of Nový Telečkov stands the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. It dates from 1832 and was consecrated on October 28, 1832. This gives the village a specific cultural landmark that can easily be combined with observing the round-village layout. Above Nový Telečkov, a granite monument also commemorates regional and family history. It bears a family coat of arms, the Moravian coat of arms, several inscriptions and the motto “V rodu je síla.”
Historical Traces and Excursions in the Surrounding Area
Nearby destinations include the former Hradisko castle site. It served as a watch post; in times of danger, a warning fire was lit there that could be seen from other castles. Double ramparts have been preserved and remain visible in the nearby Hradisko area. The site thus represents an earlier function that can still be recognized today from its terrain features, adding another place of discovery to the history of the village.
In the area around Nový Telečkov, you can go hiking and pick mushrooms. A yellow hiking trail leads from Trnava–Kobylince via Přeckov and Hroznatín to Nový Telečkov. If you are arriving on foot, you can reach Nový Telečkov from the Oslavička railway stop by following the road west for approximately three kilometers. Another option is a direct bus connection, although it operates only on weekdays. These two details help you consider getting there and planning a day around the village separately.
Water is also part of the experiences described in the surrounding area: You can swim in a nearby, recently renovated pond near Nový Telečkov. This allows hiking, nature observation and a quieter activity by the water to be included in your travel plans, without limiting the village to just one type of excursion.
Rubačka and Views of the Landscape
The Rubačka lookout tower is freely accessible year-round. The observation platform is 7 meters above the ground and is reached by climbing 42 steps. From the top, there is a northeastern view of Velké Meziříčí and the surrounding landscape. The tower therefore provides a distinct accent alongside Nový Telečkov’s historical traces: while the round-village layout, chapel, monument and Hradisko make the history and character of the village visible, Rubačka directs your gaze toward the wider landscape.
