Stojčín: Forests, Trails and Railway History

Stojčín combines a distinctive hillside location with forests, ponds, well-marked trails and an unusually prominent railway history. The village lies on the slope of Číhalův vršek; the surrounding area also contains many glacial erratics. This gives Stojčín several different attractions for a stay: walks and nature experiences, cycling tours, opportunities for swimming and historical discoveries can all be pursued as separate interests.

The railway line from Veselí nad Lužnicí to Jihlava runs through Stojčín; it was built in 1887 and is electrified. Počátky–Žirovnice railway station was completed in 1887 and has a major influence on Stojčín’s architecture. The station building and the waiting room at Počátky–Žirovnice station are not accessible to people with disabilities. The history of the village goes back further: the first written mention of Stojčín dates from 1365. The village name was probably derived from the personal name Stojata, which is no longer in use today. There is also a monument to those who fell in the First World War on the village green.
