Bratřice – Stražiště, Trails and Historic Village Culture

Bratřice lies below the 744-metre-high Stražiště hill. The municipality describes it as a dominant landscape feature of the entire region. This gives the village a clear connection to the surrounding forests, trails and historic destinations – an interesting basis for families who want to combine experiences in nature, water and small cultural discoveries.

Hiking and Cycling Around Bratřice

There are hiking trails in the forests around Bratřice. Paved paths in the surrounding area are suitable for cycling, offering another way to experience the landscape. The Sovova educational trail provides a particularly direct connection to Stražiště: it leads from Pacov via Bratřice and Stražiště hill to Lukavec. From Bratřice, there is also a 5-kilometre access route to the destination at Stražiště as part of the “Sovovou stezkou na vrch Stražiště” route.

The routes give your stay a clear direction without requiring you to commit to a single excursion destination. Depending on how you plan your day, you can choose a path through the forests, explore paved routes by bicycle or include Stražiště as your destination. Bratřice itself also has a swimming pool.

Černý rybník and Water Experiences

Černý rybník is a natural site near Bratřice. Nearby springs help keep its water clear for a long time. The water is somewhat cool, but invites swimming during much of the summer. In addition to the swimming pool in Bratřice, this provides a natural waterside location whose distinctive character is shaped by the springs and the cool water temperature.

Chapels, Crafts and Local History

The first written mention of Bratřice dates from 1273. At the centre of the village stands the Kaplička, a square village chapel from the first half of the 19th century. It is located in the middle of the village square, in park-like surroundings, and is listed as an immovable cultural monument.

Another testament to the local history is Provaznictví at Bratřice No. 51. It includes a small rural farm from the early 20th century with an attached rope-making workshop. Near the settlement of Cetule, the former Jarolímka glassworks also recalls an industrial past: it was in operation for more than 40 years. Its former use should be understood as a historical reference.

Stražiště as a Landscape and Cultural Destination

The Chapel of Saint John the Baptist was built on Stražiště in the first half of the 19th century. The Studánka sv. Jana Křtitele spring is also located at Stražiště; its water was considered to have healing properties. Pilgrimages to the spring below Stražiště take place on the last Sunday in June. In this way, the hill combines landscape, a trail experience and traditional religious traditions in one destination.
