Důl – Cycle Paths, Ponds and Cultural Discoveries

Důl combines a rural landscape with routes for cyclists and hikers, small bodies of water and notable cultural destinations. The village lies along several routes, while ponds, meadows and a revitalized orchard reveal different aspects of the surrounding area. Cycling and Hiking Routes Around Důl

Cycle Path No. 321, which runs from Jindřichův Hradec to Louňovice pod Blaníkem, passes through Důl. Dolák Pond lies along the main route of this cycle path; the route connects Kamenice nad Lipou, Pacov and Načeradec.

The village is also part of a marked network of hiking trails: the blue-marked Pelhřimov–Mladá Vožice hiking trail passes through Důl. Ponds, Meadows and Třešňovka

Dolák Pond lies 800 m north of Důl, below a hill at the turnoff from Pošenská Road to Důl. On hot summer days, it is a popular place for swimming and relaxation; the pond was reconstructed in 2009. There are also larger and smaller picturesque private ponds in the village, where kingfishers or herons can occasionally be spotted.

The western side of Důl is lined with meadows along the Novodvorský potok stream. Southeast of the village, in the direction of Vrchy, lies Třešňovka, a revitalized orchard on a hill. In addition to cherry trees, pear, plum and walnut trees were planted there. The “Nad třešňovou alejí” viewpoint offers a view of Pošná.

Chapel, Castle and Local Tradition

The municipality’s historic monuments include the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in Důl. Two distinctive landmarks stand along the approach road: A stone cross is located approximately 200 m before the village sign on the main access road. An iron cross on a stone pedestal stands approximately 50 m before the village sign, near a turnoff onto a field track.

Less than 4 km south of Důl, Kámen Castle lies in the municipality of Kámen. The originally Gothic castle dates back to the 13th century and houses permanent exhibitions of historic motorcycles as well as 19th-century housing and lifestyle. In Důl itself, the ceremonial switching-on of the Christmas lights on Dolská náves is a local tradition; editions took place in 2024 and 2025.

Another cultural and historical destination is located in the municipality of Nová Ves: The stone railway viaduct is an example of bridge construction from the late 19th century, consists of eleven arched openings and shapes the landscape there. The viaduct thus provides a technical contrast to Kámen Castle and its historical exhibitions in the surrounding region.
