Discover Křelovice: Forests, Water and Local History

Křelovice is a place for travelers who want to discover the landscape and local history together. The village lies less than one kilometer from the left bank of the Trnávka River and is predominantly surrounded by coniferous forests. There are also historic buildings, memorial stones and marked routes. Forests, the Trnávka River and Nearby Reservoirs

The riverside location and forest landscape shape the character of Křelovice. Of the surrounding forests, 131 hectares are directly owned by the municipality of Křelovice. Křelovice is considered a suitable starting point for walks in the forests, where blueberries and mushrooms can be collected. This makes the village particularly interesting for days when the landscape itself is the main focus and the family wants to explore without a fixed sightseeing program.

Reservoirs considered suitable for swimming are located about two kilometers from Křelovice. These waters belong to the surrounding area of the village but are not located directly in its center.

An Elliptical Village Layout with Historic Traces

Křelovice has a completely elliptical village layout, known as an Okrouhlice. This form is considered the oldest type of Slavic village. In 1379, Křelovice was recorded as having 40 residents and an area of 24 láns. This gave the municipality the second-largest area among the villages of the Červená Řečice estate.

The described buildings include the Stará pošta building complex in Křelovice, house number 26. In 1856, it was extended by a long wing with vaulted stables. House number 1 contains the Sýpka, a plastered, two-story granary with a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof. It belongs to the buildings of an agricultural farmstead. Both buildings provide concrete architectural points of reference for the local history.

Memorial Stones and Reconciliation Crosses

Several smaller monuments complete this historical picture. At the central pond stands a damaged granite stone that, according to tradition, is said to commemorate an inn dispute that ended in a death. On the northeastern edge of Křelovice, on the road to Senožaty, stands a stone memorial with a protruding relief of a paw cross.

The site of Dva smírčí kříže comprises two sandstone reconciliation crosses, probably of medieval origin. Only one of the crosses remains at the site; it bears an engraving depicting a crossbow or a sword. In front of the chapel in Křelovice there is also a statue of the Virgin Mary from 1901. These places are suitable as specific themes for exploring the cultural history of the village, without reducing Křelovice to a single historic monument.

Cycle Route and Historic Trail

Cycle route 161 passes through Křelovice between Želiv and Senožaty and continues via Onšov and Košetice. In addition, the blue-marked historic trail between Červená Řečice and Pelhřimov passes through Křelovice and continues to Košetice.
