Discover Kamenný Malíkov
Kamenný Malíkov combines a distinctive valley with an unusually diverse local history. If you would like to combine nature, small cultural monuments, and local traditions on your trip, you will find specific points of interest here: the Žirovnice River in the Malíkovské skály valley, historic structures, a geological site, and reminders of amateur theater and mother-of-pearl processing.
The Malíkovské skály Valley and Its Geological Traces
Kamenný Malíkov is visited because of the Malíkovské skály valley. The Žirovnice River flows through the valley, and the Čertova skluzavka is one of its characteristic features. This gives the village a distinct landscape focal point that differs clearly from the historic details in the village center.
A separate point of interest is the geological site “Výchozy na jižním okraji obce Kamenný Malíkov”. It is a natural outcrop on the left bank of the Žirovnice River. It is accessible from a road on the southern edge of the village. A walkable trail leads from the road to the outcrop; the trail is longer than 250 meters. This precise distance helps you plan the visit as a separate short excursion into the landscape without confusing the route with a distance to the village itself.
Chapel, Bridge, and Local History
The founding of Kamenný Malíkov is dated to sometime in the 14th century. The earliest written records date from 1512; at that time, the settlement was called Český Malíkov. Another historical point of reference is St. Anne’s Chapel: the small rendered masonry chapel has a square floor plan and a hipped roof with a polygonal roof turret. It dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The stone road bridge spans the Počátecký potok. It is a massive single-arch bridge standing at right angles to the watercourse, with a deck above the arch, walls, and wing walls. Its right-angled position relative to the watercourse describes its orientation, while the arch, deck, walls, and wing walls describe its construction. The bridge dates from the second half of the 19th century. On its eastern side, a cast-iron statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on a pedestal.
These examples reveal the village’s chronological layers. Its founding is dated to the 14th century, followed by the first written record in 1512. The chapel dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, while the road bridge dates from the second half of the 19th century. This sequence connects the village’s beginnings, written record, religious building, and transport structure. Together with the history of local associations, the chronological arc extends beyond a single era.
Amateur Theater and Mother-of-Pearl Processing
The village’s cultural history also extends beyond individual buildings. The amateur theater association of Kamenný Malíkov already existed in 1924 and had 25 members in 1932. After 1990, Kamenný Malíkov renewed its connection with the amateur theater tradition; in winter, the association staged up to four plays. From the mid-19th century, Kamenný Malíkov also had mother-of-pearl workers, known as čamrdáři. The term refers to the local craft activity and adds to the picture of a place whose history was also shaped by associations and work.
