Discover Křoví
Accommodation in Křoví
Křoví combines protected landscapes, regional history and unusual discoveries within a compact thematic area. The landscape in the southern and southeastern parts of the municipality lies within the „Údolí Bílého potoka“ Nature Park and is subject to enhanced landscape protection. In addition, there are cultural monuments, historical traces of mining, a mill trail and a cycling route through the Bílý potok valley.
Landscape between meadows, forest and the Bílý potok
The Křovský úval is a distinctive natural area. It is a natural and semi-cultivated meadow community with warmth-loving plants. The locality is threatened by encroaching shrubs – a detail that makes the character of such open landscapes visible, as well as the pressure they face from change. The „Studánka sv. Jána“ spring lies near the Křoví sawmill; there is a forest pond nearby.
Southeast of Křoví, the wooden sculptures „Reklama na čučení do krajiny“ by Ing. arch. Župka stand on a hill. They offer views of the village and the Bílý potok valley. This gives the landscape an artistic accent in addition to its protected character, distinct from the historical monuments in the village.
Hiking and cycling with specific routes
The „Už ty mlýny doklapaly“ educational trail passes nine former mills in the surroundings of Vlkov, Křoví and Velká Bíteš. The shorter circular route is 12 km long; the subsequent circular route around Křoví covers a further 7 km, making 19 km in total. The route therefore combines mill history with the experience of the landscape, without the two circular routes having the same length or following the same course.
For longer cycling trips, the 45 km route „Do údolí Bílého potoka na kole“ passes through Křoví. Please note the current warning concerning the educational trail: parts of the route may be in poor condition because of bark beetle damage and logging. Some marked trees are damaged or completely missing.
Cultural monuments and traces of history
The Neoclassical Church of St Peter and Paul in Křoví is a cultural monument dating from 1808. A cross from the same year stands in front of the church and is registered as an immovable cultural monument. In the northern part of Křoví there is also a wayside shrine that has been heritage-protected since 1958. The history of the village began much earlier: Křoví was first mentioned in writing in connection with its sale in 1371.
The surrounding area also tells of earlier extraction of raw materials. In the 18th century, so-called Kutiště sites for extracting iron ores operated around Křoví. Graphite and limonite were mined in the quarry below Bítešská horka from 1870 to 1885. These historical details complement the visible monuments with an economic and landscape-historical perspective.
