Starovice: Village Square, Wine Cellars and Velkopavlovická Wine Trail

Starovice combines village architectural history, visible religious art and a deep-rooted wine tradition. Particularly characteristic are the village square with the Church of St George and St Nicholas, the original wine cellars that are still in use today, and the Velkopavlovická Wine Trail, which passes through the village. Village Square and Religious Buildings

Starovice's village square is dominated by the Church of St George and St Nicholas and its adjoining parish house. The Church of St George and St Nicholas was built in the 16th century. During its extensive renovation in 1885, a nave was built over a vaulted stream bed – a detail that makes the building's architectural history particularly vivid.

There is also a statue of St Anthony in the village square. Next to the municipal office stands the Baroque statue of the Immaculata, dating from 1741. Directly next to the Church of St George and St Nicholas is a cross with Christ from 1792. These different dates make it clear during a walk that Starovice's villagescape has been shaped by several historical periods. There is also a statue of St Gothard in the fields south of Starovice.

Starovice's chapel also tells an unusual more recent story: it was moved three metres in 2005 because it protruded into the roadway. The village centre and its surroundings thus combine older religious buildings and sculptures with a specific change from the recent past.

Many of Starovice's wine cellars have been preserved in their original form and still serve their purpose today. Starovice has two bus stops: Starovice obec and Starovice–rozcestí. They are concrete reference points when choosing a location if you take bus accessibility into consideration. The road layout is also clearly described: Road 00220 runs through Starovice and joins Road 425 after approximately 700 metres. This road provides access to the D2 motorway at Hustopeče.
