Roubanina: Hills, History and Traces of St. Andrew

Roubanina combines a hilly landscape with a multifaceted local history. The village lies at an elevation of 469 m, and the Zavadilka stream flows through Roubanina. At the same time, its historical traces extend from the first written mention in 1356 to cultural and architectural details that can still be specifically identified today. Its elevation in a hilly landscape shapes the geographical setting of Roubanina. Marked cycling routes run through the surrounding area. The history of the Sokol theatre group in Roubanina is particularly illustrative. From 1922 to 1933, it performed a total of 28 plays. From 1945 to 1962, a further 14 productions were staged; its activities ended in 1962. The two periods show cultural development not as an undefined tradition, but through specific years and numbers of performances.

The village’s historical working life has also been preserved through individual occupations. Among others, Roubanina was home to bakers, carpenters, blacksmiths, coopers, wheelwrights, shoemakers, tailors and seamstresses. St. Andrew’s: Architectural history and frescoes

St. Andrew’s Church offers several distinct historical points of reference. It was extensively rebuilt in 1923–1924, when a nave and a storage building were added. Its floor plan is elongated and has a slightly recessed five-sided chancel. In addition, remains of rare 14th-century frescoes were uncovered and restored in 2003–2004.

Of the late-medieval Roubanina Tvrz, which was originally part of a farmstead, only a slight elevation remains today in the garden of house no. 4.
