Adamov U Brna: Cultural Monuments and Routes

Adamov U Brna combines important cultural monuments with a viewpoint above the town and specific routes through the surrounding area. In Adamov, the neo-Gothic Kostel svaté Barbory and the Světelský oltář preserved there are the main attractions. Above the town, the Alexandrova rozhledna stands on Špičák. In the Křtinský Valley, Františčina huť (Stará huť) adds a monument to iron smelting to the area’s attractions. Kostel svaté Barbory and the Světelský oltář

Kostel svaté Barbory was built in Adamov from 1855 to 1857 according to a design by the Viennese architect Josef Kieser. The neo-Gothic church is 26 metres long and 10 metres wide. The year 1857 is also important in the building’s history: that was when the Světelský oltář was donated to the newly built church in Adamov.

The central section of the Světelský oltář, which is now located in the church in Adamov, depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The work also has an explicitly recorded heritage status: on 8 February 2010, the Government of the Czech Republic declared the Světelský oltář a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Alexandrova rozhledna above Adamov

The 15-metre-high stone Alexandrova rozhledna replaced a wooden lookout pavilion on Špičák above Adamov in 1887. From there, you can enjoy a view of the Svitava Valley and the wider surrounding area. The viewpoint therefore offers a different kind of experience from the church: the focus is on elevation, the landscape view and the route to the destination.

The most convenient access to Alexandrova rozhledna from Adamov leads from Sedmi dubů via the green-marked hiking trail.

Františčina huť and the routes in the Křtinský Valley

Františčina huť (Stará huť) is located in the western part of the Křtinský Valley. The structure is a cultural monument dating from the mid-18th century. At the same time, Františčina huť is considered the oldest blast furnace in Central Europe and one of the best-preserved. The site therefore represents a different chapter of regional history from the Světelský oltář: this visit focuses not on sacred art and church construction, but on the development of iron smelting.

The site is occasionally used for experimental and demonstrative smelting in replicas of Slavic iron furnaces. For cyclists, cycling route 5077 leads through the Křtinský Valley to Josefov and onward to Jedovnice.

From Adamov railway station, an approximately 15-minute walk leads to the church via the yellow-marked route and Osvobození Street.
