Discover Vitějovice: Mill, Church and Osule Castle

Mill, Millrace and Village Square

The preserved Panský Mill (Bürgrův Mill) stands below Vitějovice on the left bank of the Zlatý potok, a right-bank tributary of the Blanice. This makes a specific historic site part of the village’s surroundings, whose setting is also shaped by the water. The millrace of the Panský Mill is approximately 750 m long and runs along the eastern edge of Vitějovice.

The Baroque Church of St Margaret stands on the village square. The present church is a Baroque building constructed between 1743 and 1746 on the site of an older church. The year 1743 thus marks the beginning of this construction history. Together with the mill, the church offers a second, clearly different way to explore the history of the village.

Hiking Trails to the Traces of Osule

The blue hiking trail from Vitějovice to Husinec has a short branch leading to the ruins of Osule. For planning your day, this route creates a connection between the village and a historic destination, so you do not have to limit your exploration of cultural history to the village square.

The remains of the palas and the lower sections of two massive round towers survive from Osule Castle. A restored monument also stands at a crossroads where five armies met in 1945. During your exploration, you will thus encounter various historical layers, from the surviving medieval masonry to the remembrance of 1945.

Nature and a Cycling Circuit

One of the natural attractions in Vitějovice is the Kralovické louky Nature Reserve. This protected landscape area complements the historic destinations with a nature theme and expands the options for days when the church, mill or castle ruins are not the main focus.

For longer excursions, “Na Zlatý potok a hrad Osule” is an approximately 40 km cycling circuit. Its name connects the Zlatý potok with Osule Castle, thereby bringing together two prominent features of the regional landscape and history. If you want to combine cycling and culture, the tour offers a distinct focus alongside the shorter branch of the blue hiking trail.
