Discover Mahouš: Village History on the Edge of Zbudovské Blata
Mahouš lies on the southwestern edge of Zbudovské Blata and combines a distinctive landscape setting with a rich village history that has been passed down through generations. Around the year 1300, Mahouš is documented as property of Zlatá Koruna Monastery. Those who want to get to know a place not only through its present-day appearance, but also through its architectural forms and historical traces, will find several specific points of interest here.
Village Architecture with Stories of Its Own
One of the most striking buildings is the forge at No. 35. It is connected to a residential building, while its gable is designed in the Blata architectural style. The combination of a place of craftsmanship, a residential building, and a regional architectural form makes the forge an illustrative example of how Mahouš’s history can be read in individual houses.
Several farmsteads also contribute to the village’s distinctive history. Farmstead No. 26 in Mahouš is a listed heritage site. Farmstead No. 5 is notable for its longitudinal floor plan. It was created by joining two buildings that originally stood with their gables facing the street. Mahouš therefore offers not only individual historical details, but also different architectural solutions within the village.
Wayside Shrine and Chapel in the Village Setting
A Gothic stone wayside shrine stands on the western side of the village green. Another distinctive landmark is located on the road to Němčice: a Baroque niche chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Both structures are among the small, place-specific discoveries that differ from a major attraction. They draw attention to the paths, squares, and transitions within the village’s organically developed structure.
Mahouš on the Historická krajina Netolicko Educational Cycle Path
The marked “Historická krajina Netolicko” educational cycle path runs through Mahouš. It passes the forge as one of its points of interest. The cycle path comprises 16 stops with information panels in total. For planning a cycling tour, the 16 stops provide a concrete basis for several stages. For travel planning, it is therefore not only the route through Mahouš that matters, but also the thematic format of the path: the route connects its stops with explanatory information, while the forge serves as a specific point of reference within the village.
The historic farmsteads, wayside shrine, and chapel complement this cultural focus with further visible details. This allows you to experience Mahouš during a tour of the village not as a place reduced to a single building, but as a setting where different forms of regional history can be observed. The cycle path provides a clear framework for this without the individual structures losing their distinct identity.
Agricultural Machinery at the Tractor Gathering
A different aspect awaits you at the tractor gathering in Mahouš. Several dozen tractors are displayed there, including historic models, along with other agricultural machinery and ploughing demonstrations. The gathering adds a living agricultural tradition to the image of the village and establishes a clear focus alongside its architecture and religious buildings.
