Thurmplandles – Nature, Culture and Trails

Thurmplandles combines landscapes, local history and active experiences into a destination with many different facets. Between forested slopes, historic village culture, hiking trails and access to the Poluška area, you will find plenty of opportunities for a stay where nature and culture stand side by side.

Landscape between the Malše, Vltava and Poluška

Near Věžovatá Pláně, a ridge rising from the Kaplická Furrow separates the valleys of the Malše and the Vltava. The settlement lies on a plain surrounded by forested slopes. From there, beautiful views extend for dozens of kilometres, including as far as the České Budějovice Basin, where the Malše and Vltava converge.

The landscape can therefore be understood from several perspectives: the plain forms the settlement area, the ridge separates the river valleys, and the nature park begins on the southern side. On its southern side, Věžovatá Pláně is both the boundary and the gateway to Poluška Nature Park. Poluška Nature Park is named after the 919-metre-high mountain of the same name. Věžovatá Pláně is also one of the most important starting points for access to the Poluška area. This makes it possible to place a clear focus on the landscape and natural environment when planning a trip, without losing sight of the village’s cultural attractions.

St. Anne’s Church and Living Tradition

A prominent cultural landmark is St. Anne’s Church in the centre of Věžovatá Pláně. It is a brick single-nave church with a three-sided apse. It was built in 1800 on the site of an older wooden church; the tower was added in 1870. The three-sided apse is part of the church’s architectural form, while the tower, as a later addition, visibly reflects the development of the building. The building’s history makes the religious structure more than just a single photo opportunity: it provides an insight into the development of the village landscape over several periods.

A regional dance tradition is also part of the cultural identity. The Vitoraz association of Baráčníci in Věžovatá Pláně preserves the tradition of Staročeská Beseda, a Czech folk dance. Those seeking local forms of history and community alongside natural experiences will find a distinctive cultural perspective here.

Cycle Path, Hiking Trails and Night Skiing

A cycle path runs through Věžovatá Pláně, and two hiking trails also pass through the village.

The Kozí Pláně ski area offers another clearly distinct option. It has night skiing on a floodlit ski slope. The similar names of the two Pláně locations should not cause confusion: the ski area with its floodlit slope is in Kozí Pláně, while the cycle path and hiking trails run through Věžovatá Pláně. The Kozí Pláně ski area is five minutes from the Kaplice–nádraží motorway exit of the D3.
