Renaissance and urban history in the historic center

Státní zámek Třeboň is a Renaissance château on the southwest side of Třeboň’s historic center. It was first mentioned in 1374. Also located in the historic center is Dům Štěpánka Netolického, a preserved Renaissance building. An interactive permanent exhibition there presents the pond-building heritage of the Třeboň region as well as the life and work of Štěpánek Netolický. This makes it possible to discover the region’s history not only through its architecture, but also through the design of its aquatic landscape.

Another landmark is the 31-meter-high square tower of the Old Town Hall. Its gallery offers views of Třeboň and the surrounding green-and-blue landscape. For a stay featuring several cultural stops, the historic center is therefore a focal point, while the themes of nature and pond building provide additional reasons to visit.

Třeboňsko as a landscape experience

Dům přírody Třeboňska has been operating in Třeboň’s historic center since 2010 and was the first House of Nature in the Czech Republic. The visitor center provides information about the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve, educational trails and tourist attractions in the local landscape. The permanent exhibition “Krajina a lidé” presents the natural and landscape history of the Třeboňsko region and offers entertaining learning activities for children and adults.

Hortus Botanicus Třeboň also has its own distinctive focus. During the visitor season, it presents selected tropical and subtropical plant species from the Southern Hemisphere. Since 2016, it has also included an exhibition of carnivorous plants from around the world. This allows you to include unusual plant-related attractions alongside the regional landscape without leaving the town’s cultural focus behind.

Moor tradition, beer and guided discoveries

In Třeboň, processed peat or medicinal clay is used for moor baths and moor packs, particularly to treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The moor tradition is therefore one of the town’s distinctive themes and complements visits to its buildings and exhibitions.

At Zbrojnice, a beer bar in a cellar of Pivovar Regent, visitors can taste unfiltered and unpasteurized beer. Guided tours of Kostel Panny Marie Královny a sv. Jiljí include the church, the cloister and a garden with a fountain.
