Vícemil – Views, Culture and Cycle Routes

Vícemil combines a long history with distinctive natural and cultural monuments. A viewpoint east of the village offers panoramic views of the landscape and Deštná. There is also an existing cycle route through Vícemil, numerous marked cycle paths in the surrounding area, and several chapels and crosses that shape the character of the village.

History between Vícemil and Deštná

Vícemil was first mentioned in 1378. A document from 1418 allowed the inhabitants of Deštná and Vícemil to freely inherit and sell their property. In 1597, the Kapinošovský Court and its associated sheepfold were mentioned in Vícemil. These key dates provide a concrete framework for the village’s history, which you can connect during your stay with the visible architectural and landscape monuments.

Views and Landscape

A significant viewpoint with panoramic views of the landscape and Deštná is located east of Vícemil. The area around this viewpoint is intended to remain open, undeveloped and unforested so that the view and unobstructed horizon are preserved. In the same easterly direction stands a stone rectangular niche chapel with an image of Jesus Christ; the chapel is well preserved.

West of Vícemil, an area of landscape value with aesthetic significance has been designated. Its character is based on the harmony of natural and urban-planning values. When planning your trip, you can therefore take two different landscape settings into account: the open view east of the village and the designated valuable area to the west.

Cultural Monuments in the Village and Along the Paths

The village chapel of Vícemil is designated as a significant architectural landmark. In the open countryside are the boží muka, designated as having cultural and architectural value. A three-metre-high stone cross near Vícemil bears depictions of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. On the road towards Deštná stands a cast-iron cross on a stone pedestal with a depiction of the crucified Jesus. Another cast-iron cross is located on the outskirts of the village towards Chotěmice; it also stands on a stone pedestal and bears depictions of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

Cycling and Further Discoveries

The cycle route through Vícemil and the numerous marked cycle paths in the surrounding area offer an active way to combine the village and the landscape. Vícemil also has a sports ground.
