Podolský Bridge and its construction history

Podolský Bridge was built between 1938 and 1943. Its main arch is 150 metres long. A permanent photo exhibition at the Podolí I Museum documents the construction of Podolský Bridge during precisely these years. A historical route via the Podolsko ferry

Podolský Bridge stands at a site with an older transport history. An old trade route from Bavaria to Galicia crossed via the Podolsko ferry. The first written reference to the ferry dates from 1493. The route ran there until the chain bridge was built in 1848. The later bridge can therefore also be viewed in the context of an earlier crossing and a historic long-distance connection.

Remembrance on the Temešvár side

An information panel on the Temešvár side of Podolský Bridge was replaced on 8 May 2014. It provides information about events in Podolsko at the end of the Second World War. A small commemorative ceremony is held at the same location every year on 8 May. The Chapel of Our Lady Queen in Podolí I was built in 1970 by settlers. A pilgrimage takes place at the chapel every year on the last Sunday in May.
