Přeborov – Ponds, History and Landscape in South Bohemia

Přeborov is located in South Bohemia, about 4 km from Milevsko in the direction of Petrovice. The village combines a rich history with a picturesque, gently rolling landscape and regular events. The picturesque landscape around Přeborov is home to several ponds. The largest pond in the surrounding area is located near the Vášův mlýn recreation centre. North of the village, the gently rolling landscape is defined by the 532-metre-high Číhadla mountain. History, memorial and archaeological traces

The first written mention of Přeborov dates from 1488. Until 1575, Přeborov belonged to Milevský klášter Monastery. These two key dates give the village's history a clearly recognisable historical depth. The village is also home to a war memorial commemorating the victims of the First World War. It depicts a soldier leaning on a contemporary rifle. The design of the memorial makes the memory of the war a visible part of the village landscape.

Another distinctive indication of the past lies beyond Přeborov: in 1937, a presumably Hallstatt-period cremation burial site was discovered in a small woodland. The site is located on a hill north of the village. This archaeological trace complements the written history with a significantly older chronological horizon. Thus, in Přeborov, the mention dating from the late 15th century, the former affiliation with Milevský klášter Monastery, the war memorial and the presumed Hallstatt-period site all come together.

Events and a historic route

Přeborov regularly hosts cultural, sporting and social events. Recurring events include a pilgrimage at the beginning of July. The pilgrimage in early July complements the other types of events with a fixed date in the annual calendar. The regular programme therefore ranges from cultural, sporting and social events to this religious occasion.

A route also passes through Přeborov: the Krajem kamenů route via Petrovice ran through the village as a published safety alternative between Vášův mlýn and Něžovice.
