Vráž: Nature, Trails and Lázně Vráž
Vráž combines marked hiking trails, protected woodland landscapes, railway connections and a spa complex with a remarkable architectural history. If you want to choose a stay in the Czech Republic based on different ideas for each day, you will find both natural destinations and specific starting points for hikes and bike tours here. This means you can consider your choice of location not only in terms of accommodation, but also according to the focus you want for your trip.
Protected Forests and the Otava Valley
The natural environment includes several protected areas. The Hrby Nature Reserve protects natural forest communities ranging from beech-oak to oak-beech woodland. The Žlíbky Nature Reserve preserves a complex of typical hornbeam-oak forest communities. The Hrby Nature Reserve was designated in 1973 over an area of 26.77 hectares to protect natural submontane lime-beech forests.
Another special feature is the Žlíbky u Vráže Nature Reserve. It lies within the municipality of Vráž on the left bank of the Otava in a deeply incised river valley. Protection of the Čertova hora Nature Reserve has been in place since 1985, and an area of 13.87 hectares is stated. The Čertova hora u Vráže Nature Reserve comprises a remnant of an old deciduous forest of oaks, limes and beeches, together with a ground layer containing characteristic plant species. The different forest types and the location by the river give the surrounding area several clearly distinct natural themes, so you do not have to limit yourself to just one type of landscape.
Hiking with Different Starting Points
For hiking, Route TV 8 offers several marked connections. One hike leads from the railway station along the yellow trail past Novovrážský rybník in the direction of Doupata. A green-marked hike on Route TV 8 leads to the Žlíbky u Vráže Nature Reserve, while a blue-marked hike on the same route leads to the Čertova hora Nature Reserve.
Historic trails are also part of the orientation network. The red-marked Sedláčkova cesta can be reached from the junction near Vráž railway station. Nová Vráž is also a waypoint on the Sedláčkova stezka. For Route TV 7, train connections from Písek to Čížová and from Vráž to Písek are indicated. These railway connections can play a role in planning if you want to combine your excursions with different starting or ending points, without assuming any specific accommodation service.
Lázně Vráž and a Cycling Loop
The Lázně Vráž spa complex is located within the municipality of Vráž. It is based in a castle built in the Neo-Gothic style in 1875 for the Lobkowicz family. The castle, along with the treatment and accommodation pavilions added later, is surrounded by an English park and woodland. In addition to the protected areas and hiking trails, this provides a historic site with its own distinctive architectural character.
A cycling loop is documented that begins and ends at Nová Vráž railway station. It runs mainly along paved forest tracks or roads with very little traffic. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether you want to focus your stay more on railway and route connections, the natural areas, or the spa complex and its historic surroundings.
