Jetětice by the Orlík Reservoir: Bridge, Landscape and Hiking Trails

Jetětice lies in the western part of the Táborská pahorkatina at an elevation of 447 m. The Orlík Reservoir forms the town's natural southwestern boundary. As a result, landscape, railway history and marked hiking trails come together in Jetětice. For planning your trip, this gives you various ways to explore the town: you can focus on its location by the reservoir, trace the construction of the railway bridge or begin a hike from the railway station. The three themes can be considered independently of one another.

Railway Bridge and Cultural Monument

The Červená–Jetětice railway bridge, dating from the late 19th century, is an unusual example of engineering heritage. It was the first railway bridge in the Czech lands to be built using the balanced cantilever method without temporary falsework. Falsework is a temporary supporting structure beneath a construction; with the balanced cantilever method, the structure is built without this support. This construction method makes the bridge a notable example of railway history. In addition, the Červená–Jetětice railway bridge is designated as a cultural monument. This gives you a specific place where engineering construction and cultural history come together. During a stay in Jetětice, you can distinguish this focus from the nature and hiking themes.

Hiking Trails from Jetětice

Jetětice railway station is integrated into the integrated transport system. The “Podél Orlíku a dvou přítoků” hiking route begins at the railway station. It follows the Jetěnický stream to its mouth at the Orlík Reservoir. Along this hiking route, you can also follow a red-marked trail to the mouth of the Hrejkovický stream. The route thus connects a starting point at the railway station with two bodies of water and the landscape around the reservoir. This provides you with a clear starting point for a trip, while the two confluence areas mark different sections of the hike.

Another marked trail is the red-marked Milevsko–Jetětice hiking trail, which is connected with the Květov game preserve. For using footpaths and hiking trails in the Květov game preserve, a tourist crossing aid is planned at Lesácká on a plot of land in the Jetětice cadastral area. When planning your trip, it is therefore important to take into account the explicitly intended purpose of this crossing aid. This allows you to distinguish between a route along the water and a trail connected with the game preserve.

Another Place in the Cadastral Area

The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes is located in Jetětické Samoty, in the cadastral area of Jetětice. It complements the technical and landscape themes with another place within the municipality. Together with the railway bridge, the Orlík Reservoir and the marked trails, it broadens the view of Jetětice's different aspects. If you are looking for a hotel in Jetětice, you can assess its location according to whether you want your trip to focus primarily on railway history, the landscape around the Orlík Reservoir or marked hiking trails.
