Discover Libětice: Hradiště, Cycle Route 2A and Kbíl
Accommodation in Libětice
Libětice combines a distinctive historic landscape with concrete opportunities for cyclists, hikers and anyone interested in culture. Hradiště u Libětic lies on a ridge above the Volyňka River. A fortification was built on the summit plateau as early as the Late Iron Age; it later became the acropolis of the hillfort. As you explore, you can therefore gain an insight into the site's long history without the landscape serving merely as a backdrop.
Historical traces in and around Libětice
There are also small but distinctive reminders in the village itself. The village-square chapel in Libětice is a simple, enclosed chapel with a roof lantern serving as a bell tower. Together with a stone cross, it forms a unified ensemble. The chapel belongs to the small-scale sacred architectural features for whose protection the land-use plan sets out conditions. South of Libětice, in the Nad Liběticemi fields, there are also wayside shrines known in Czech as Boží muka. These different forms of small sacred monuments make the surrounding area interesting for a peaceful cultural walk as well.
Cycling with clearly defined stages
Cycle Route 2A provides a clearly defined basis for planning a day trip: it is 18 km long and has an elevation gain of 182 metres. The route passes through Drachkov, Sousedovice, Libětice, Švejcarova Lhota, Kraselov and Smiradice, then returns via Sousedovice to Drachkov. The distance and elevation gain help you compare this loop with other excursion plans. From Libětice, Route 2A heads towards Úlehle without reaching the village. On the more demanding climb, you can take a detour along the yellow-marked hiking trail to Kbíl. The final 150 m are very demanding and suitable for experienced mountain bikers.
Routes to Hradiště and the Kbíl lookout tower
Access to Hradiště u Libětic begins at the church in Libětice and heads south. It then continues along a field track to the forest. The final section leaves the track and climbs through the forest northeastwards to the hilltop. The Kbíl lookout tower provides another point of reference: it is 42 m high overall and has an observation platform at a height of 27 m. From there, you can see Strakonice, the Šumava Mountains, Boubín, Bobík, Libín, Kleť, the Brdy Mountains and Temelín.
Libětice as a starting point for your research
The yellow-marked hiking trail to Kbíl crosses the road from Libětice to Úlehle south of Strakonice. Alternatively, you can reach the trail junction on the edge of the village from Švejcarova Lhota and then follow the yellow trail for about 1 km to the tower. If you are looking for accommodation in Libětice, this allows you to choose between historical traces, a signposted cycle route and described hiking approaches without having to combine the individual attractions into a single route.
