Historical Traces in Předslavice

Předslavice combines a remarkable history with concrete discoveries throughout the town. If you are interested in sacred architecture, traditional crafts and historic buildings, you will find several distinct points of interest here. A cycling route also passes through Předslavice, making the town a suitable destination for a trip that combines culture and physical activity.

The Church of the Holy Trinity and Saint Wenceslas is the main attraction. It is first mentioned in writing in 1350. At the same time, it preserves a portal dating from 1320–1330 and a late Gothic baptismal font. These different traces from various periods are precisely what make the church interesting to visitors: the first written mention, the older portal and the baptismal font each belong to their own historical layers, which you can take into account when viewing the building.

Crafts, Buildings and Local History

Another cultural point of interest is the LIVA Předslavice Museum of Rural Life, which presents traditional crafts. You can enrich your stay with an insight into rural craft traditions.

Another distinctive feature is the Baroque gate of the former “U Blumů” estate. It dates from 1848 and was created by the folk master builder and masonry artist Jakub Bursa. Also worth seeing is the vernacular building Předslavice 4, with its gate and the Baroque gable above it. An inscription on this building states that the Malinů family already owned the farm before 1655. Both sites thus preserve different forms of historical memory: a Baroque gate at a former estate and a building with a handed-down family history.

In the settlement of Kakovice, which belongs to the municipality of Předslavice, the Chapel of Saint Anne stands on the village green. In the vicinity of Předslavice, there is also a rotunda on a hill. These two points broaden the view beyond the town centre without presenting the individual destinations as a single architectural complex.

Cycling Route and Historic Routes

The “Around the Fortresses and the Museum of Rural Life in Předslavice” cycling route passes through Předslavice. Its title already indicates a connection between fortification and museum themes; for your planning, it is clear that the route includes the town. Předslavice developed along the so-called German trade route, which led from Passau via Písek onwards to Prague. This historical connection gives the town an additional narrative setting, while the cycling route offers a present-day way to include it in an active exploration.

Předslavice is connected by public bus services and private transport. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether you want to consider the town primarily for its historical monuments, the museum or the cycling route.

For your further search, you can also consider Volyně, Číčenice, Sedlice U Blatné, Paračov, Cestice, Drachkov, Mnichov and Truskovice.
