Květov: Village History, Architecture and Nature
In Květov, rural architecture, protected woodland and regional activities come together. On the north side of the village square stands a large farm complex with a massive barn. The 1904 fire preceded the creation of an ensemble of three farmsteads. The range of themes therefore extends from historic farmsteads to running and mountain biking routes.
Historic Architectural Forms in Květov
A large farm complex with a massive barn is located on the north side of Květov village square. This farm represents the village character of the place; its massive barn complements the three farmsteads with a large-scale agricultural building.
At the beginning of the 20th century, following the 1904 fire, a remarkable ensemble of three farmsteads was created in Květov. The façades combine Neo-Renaissance style with elements of Czech rural Baroque; they were built by master mason František Luza. Neo-Renaissance contributes representative forms, while rural Baroque preserves the connection with rural architecture. The 1904 fire thus marks the historical starting point of the ensemble. It is precisely this combination of representative and rural forms that makes the ensemble a distinctive subject for anyone interested in regional architecture.
Tyrolský dům and the Chapel of St. Hubert
The remaining walls of Tyrolský dům are built using log construction and clad with shingles featuring rounded tips. The building also has a fully encircling wooden gallery, accessible via an exterior wooden staircase. Tyrolský dům thus focuses attention on log construction, shingles, the gallery and the exterior staircase. The encircling gallery and exterior staircase create an additional wooden level around the building.
The Tyrolský dům hunting lodge was built in 1810/11 in the so-called Alpine style. In the Czech Republic, this is considered an unusual architectural style. The Chapel of St. Hubert represents a smaller, clearly defined form: a log building with a rectangular floor plan, a hipped roof covered with shingles and a sanctus roof turret.
Protected Woodland
Another focal point is the Rukávečská obora. It was first placed under protection on 6 August 1929 and protects a fragment of original acid-loving woodrush-beech forests. Květov’s natural side thus combines a precise protection date with a surviving part of the original acid-loving woodrush-beech forests. The woodland extends the image of the place beyond its farmsteads and buildings and complements its architectural forms with an independent ecological focus.
Routes for Different Interests
The two routes complement the architectural and natural themes with different forms of activity. Section 25 of the Vltava Run runs from Květov to Kostelec nad Vltavou. The Velký Písecký okruh is a mountain biking route through the Písek region. The first route connects Květov with Kostelec nad Vltavou; the mountain biking route leads through the Písek region. Running and mountain biking therefore stand as different focal points alongside the historical and ecological themes. The combination of a specific start-to-finish route and a regional mountain biking trail appeals to two different forms of active exploration.
For families with different preferences, the themes offer various conversation starters: a historical turning point marked by the 1904 fire, visible architectural forms, a precisely dated start of protection and two different routes.
