Kadov combines a striking natural landmark with sacred buildings and historical traces from several periods. The village is particularly interesting if, during your stay, you want to explore not only a landscape but also architectural history and local features. The Kadovský viklan, the “Okolím viklanu” educational trail and the churches provide different points of interest. Each attraction remains distinct: the natural stone represents the landscape, while the buildings represent different historical layers.

Natural Monument and Educational Trail

The Kadovský viklan is located in a park next to the Kadov municipal office. The striking stone has been designated a protected natural monument since 1985. This places a specific natural landmark at the centre of exploring the village, clearly distinguishing it from the historic sights. The individual stone and the educational trail focus on two different aspects: a protected natural monument stands alongside a structured series of discovery stations.

The “Okolím viklanu” educational trail has 13 stations. The cycling routes around Kadov generally run along field and forest connecting paths. Their surfaces are unpaved, stony or grass-covered. If you are planning a cycling tour, this documented path condition is important information when choosing your route. The different surfaces give you an initial impression of the character of the routes.

Churches and Historic Buildings

The parish church of Saint Wenceslas in Kadov has Gothic origins and was remodelled in the late Baroque style. The church also has an organ designed as a medium-sized late Baroque instrument. Thus, this building brings together medieval beginnings, a later stylistic transformation and an instrument from the late Baroque period. The church therefore combines two clearly distinguishable periods: its Gothic origins and its late Baroque remodelling.

Near the church in Kadov, the Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Finding of the Holy Cross stands in the cemetery. It was built between 1856 and 1863. The chapel complements the parish church with a 19th-century building and also makes the area interesting for visitors who want to compare different historical styles. In contrast to the parish church, the focus here is on a different style and a significantly later construction date.

Another historical highlight is Stará tvrz. The complex was originally a wooden noble residence surrounded by a moat. Two Renaissance gables have been preserved in the west wing. In addition, the Gothic-Renaissance fortress in Kadov was converted into a granary in the 18th and 19th centuries. These details show how the functions of historic buildings could change over the centuries. The complex thus combines an original noble residence, preserved Renaissance forms and a later use as a granary. This change of function adds to the historical perspective reflected in the sacred buildings with their different stylistic periods.
