Truskovice amid Orchards and Cultural Landscape

Truskovice lies in a well-known fruit-growing region. A large part of the agricultural land is planted with fruit trees such as apple and cherry trees. In the southern part of the town, there is a group of small ponds around the Malovický stream and below Libějovický vrch. The surrounding area belongs to the protected Libějovicko-Lomecko landscape monument zone. In Truskovice, fruit growing, a waterscape and protected cultural areas therefore come together within a compact thematic setting.

Cycling Routes with a Regional Focus

The Historická krajina Netolicka educational cycling route is one of the cycling paths and routes that meet in Truskovice. It is approximately 50 km long, signposted, runs along paved paths and has 16 information stations. The fruit-growing cycling route is also one of the routes that meet in Truskovice. If you would like to combine cycling with regional discoveries during your stay, the two routes offer different thematic points of connection. At around 50 km, the educational cycling route has a clearly defined regional scope, while the 16 information stations provide additional points of interest along the way. Together with the paved paths, they provide a concrete basis for planning a cycling trip according to route, surface and themes.

Local History and Architectural Heritage

The first surviving written mention of Truskovice dates from 1274. Several examples of vernacular architecture have been preserved in the town. The village square is home to the Chapel of Saint Florian, a farmhouse Baroque building dating from 1821. There is also a niche chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk on the outskirts of the town. The arrangement of the buildings distributes the town’s history across different spaces: the Chapel of Saint Florian stands on the village square, while the niche chapel on the outskirts provides a different point of reference. Southeast of Truskovice lies the pilgrimage church of Jména Panny Marie Lomec. These different landmarks make the town’s history visible at several specific locations.

Views, Ponds and Natural Waters

The 588 m-high Pohořelec offers views of blossoming orchards and the Šumava peaks of Boubín, Bobík, Libínské sedlo and Knížecí stolec. The small ponds in the south provide a different landscape accent. In summer, Truskovice offers opportunities for swimming in natural waters. When planning your visit, you can therefore choose between different focuses—views, orchard landscapes and summer days by the water—without reducing the character of the town to just one experience.

Festivals Celebrating Blossom and Fruit

In the Chelčicko-Lhenický microregion, flower festivals take place in May, while fruit festivals are held in October and November. The fruit festivals include fruit growers’ markets, as well as competitions for the apple, slivovitz, spirits and fruit speciality of the year. Truskovice also regularly hosts the Staročeská konopická festival. Such events give a trip a seasonal connection and link the landscape with regional produce and traditions.

Public transport provides regular connections from Truskovice to Netolice and Vodňany. Truskovice has no railway connection; the railway station in Vodňany is 5 km from Truskovice.
