Teindles: Culture and Excursions along the Malše

Teindles offers views of Doudleby and the Malše: Doudleby lies in a bend of the river and combines significant traces of local history with festivals, cycle paths and activities on the water. Those who want to combine culture and active days during their stay will find a variety of themes here that can be easily compared.

Church, Rampart and Historic Details

St. Vincent's Church stands on the site of an old Slavic rampart on a hill above the Malše. At the Doudleby rampart, a rampart several metres high and approximately 100 metres long has been preserved. This places the sacred building and the history of early settlement in one location, making the area's past particularly vivid.

The architectural history of the church also spans several eras. The sacristy and presbytery are Gothic components from the 14th century, while the frescoes in the sacristy date from around 1350. The current flat-roofed form and the tower were created in 1708 and 1709. In Doudleby, a stone Pietà from 1756 completes this historical picture.

Bridge, Chapel and Living Traditions

The Čapkův Bridge is also part of the area's history: its opening was celebrated on 25 August 1929. A spring rises at the Chapel of St. Barbara; the chapel was built around 1680 by Cyprian of Velešín. Such individual buildings and sites of remembrance give a stay tangible points of interest without requiring you to focus on a single type of excursion.

The Doudlebské dožínky folklore festival takes place annually and has been held since 1997. It includes a traditional costume procession and afternoon open-air performances at Čapák, including performances by Doudleban and Kovářovan. Masopust in Doudleby also includes a rose procession through the village organised by the Doudleban folklore group.

Cycling, Hiking and the Malše

Several different options are available for an active day. The Na kole okolo Doudleb cycle tour, traditionally held in June, is approximately 30 to 40 kilometres long and is particularly suitable for families with children. The Velešín–Roudné cycle route runs from Hamr via Doudleby to Plav. From the Čapkův Bridge, it offers a 200-metre detour to St. Vincent's Church.

Those who prefer travelling on foot can follow Okolo Doudleb. This recurring hiking event takes place on the third Saturday in September and follows a route of approximately 15 kilometres through the immediate surroundings of Doudleby. Odemykání Malše adds a tradition of travelling along the Malše by boat that has existed since the 1990s.
