Village History and Two Special Chapels

Borečnice has been documented in writing since 1354. At that time, Jakub of Borečnice served as vice-castellan in Písek, where he administered the revenues. On March 14, 1405, Mikuláš Volyňský, the then owner of the village, transferred Borečnice, together with two mills, to the hospital in Písek founded by the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. The two dates mark different stages: 1354 represents the early written record, while 1405 marks a specific transfer of ownership connected with Písek.

The local architectural history includes the village chapel of Borečnice, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1855 after the bell post previously in use had become rotten. A second chapel story leads to the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was built of rubble stone above Tlučkův mlýn on the model of the pilgrimage chapel in Lourdes, at the request of the grandmother of the local miller Kubricht, and consecrated in 1871. After being restored by residents and holiday-home owners from Borečnice, it was reconsecrated on May 1, 2012. Exploring by Bicycle or on Foot

For active days, the Sedláček Trail provides a specifically described framework. The route, renewed with a modified course since 2006, is 35 km long and designated as Cycle Route No. 1225 for shared pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The modified course since 2006 is therefore part of the history of the route as it runs today.

The Sedláček Trail leads to Borečnice via Cycle Route 1158. From Borečnice, Cycle Route CT1158 continues to Zlivice. The two directions complement each other: Route 1158 leads into the village, while CT1158 continues on to Zlivice.

Mill History and Protected Nature

The Tlučkův, Sulanův mlýn mill belonging to Borečnice was first mentioned in writing in 1405. The year therefore falls in the same year as the transfer of Borečnice and two mills to the hospital in Písek. The former mill stood on the left bank of the Otava and was demolished in connection with the construction of the Orlík Reservoir. The mill site thus connects its location on the Otava with the construction history of the Orlík Reservoir. Typical forest communities of hornbeam-oak forests are protected in the Žlíbky area.
