Discover Forbes: Monastic Culture, Nature and Family Experiences

The featured attractions range from historical culture and unusual family experiences to nature observation and cycling opportunities. A stay becomes particularly varied through the combination of the monastery grounds, exhibitions, adventure attractions and nature-oriented places. Depending on your daily plans, you can combine cultural discoveries, shared activities and quieter impressions.

Monastic Culture and Special Exhibitions

A former Augustinian monastery was founded in 1455 by Petr z Lindy. The “Poklady z diecéze” exhibition focuses on ecclesiastical art and the Gothic and Baroque periods of the monastery. During the guided interactive tour “Prohlídky šesti smysly”, visitors can try on ecclesiastical garments. The information centre in the monastery grounds helps with excursion planning and arranges admission tickets.

The “Vlakem z Borovan tam a zpátky” exhibition also focuses on a directly immersive theme: visitors can enter life-size historical passenger and freight cars. The Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications in Borovany displays the site’s historical equipment, weapons and accessories, as well as characteristic equipment and uniforms of the Czechoslovak armed forces from the late 1930s. The cultural spectrum thus extends from ecclesiastical art to military history.

Experiences for Families and Children

“Peklománie” is an interactive route through newly reconstructed hell-themed rooms for families with children and groups of children. The attraction also includes a hell-themed slide where young visitors can let off steam. The combination of thematic design and physical activity makes the route an experience in its own right.

Another focus is the “Za mlsnou ovečkou” programme at a mini-dairy. The programme includes a 30-minute guided tour of a mini-dairy, including a tasting of its products. The programme is offered in Borovany. In the “Borůvková zahrada s letní čítárnou” garden, visitors can taste Canadian blueberries during the ripening season. Both attractions focus on concrete insights and tasting experiences rather than a purely sightseeing-oriented visit.

Natural Swimming Pool, Nature Island and Cycling Route

The “Zahrada květů” is a small, vibrant nature island in the middle of the city. It provides a suitable environment for butterflies, bumblebees, bees and other pollinators. Lazna natural swimming pool keeps its water clean biologically in filter lagoons without chemical treatment; aquatic plants and natural ecosystems play a role in the process. These two places complement the cultural attractions with opportunities for nature observation and time by the water.

Cyclists can ride the marked “Borůvková” Okolo Borovan cycling route. This adds an active perspective to travel planning. When choosing your accommodation, it is therefore particularly important to decide whether you want to focus on culture, family experiences, nature or a combination of these themes.
