Trokavec – Village History and Trails in the Brdy Protected Landscape Area

Trokavec combines a historic village center with the landscape of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area. The protected landscape area begins immediately outside the village. Trokavec is a starting point for visiting this landscape. The Czech abbreviation CHKO stands for “chráněná krajinná oblast” and refers to a protected landscape area. Village history, elevated destinations, and a circular hiking route are thus directly connected with the landscape around the village.

A Village Center with Traces of the Past

The original village center of Trokavec is a linear village surrounded by former farmsteads. Its elongated shape and the row of former farmsteads give the village center a clearly recognizable historic structure. The former school building now serves a different public function: it houses the municipal office. A monument to those who fell in the First World War stands in front of the municipal office. A newly built bell tower stands east of the village green. It commemorates an earlier bell tower that was demolished in the 1950s. The village landscape therefore contains a converted former school building, a monument, and a new bell tower alongside traces of the village’s earlier history. The current use of the school building and the newly built tower point to different changes in the village.

Elevated Destinations on the Edge of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area

Two nearby elevated destinations lie in the landscape around Trokavec. Trokavecká skála reaches an elevation of 706 meters and is considered a destination for an ascent from Trokavec. Nearby Okrouhlík reaches an elevation of 707 meters. Prominent Buližník rocks with an interesting view border it. The difference in elevation between the two rises is only one meter. At Trokavecká skála, the ascent is the main focus, while at Okrouhlík the prominent Buližník rocks are associated with a view.

Hiking Route Starting in the Village Center

The “K Padrťským rybníkům pěšky” hiking route begins in the center of Trokavec and initially follows the marked cycle route 2154. The first section is therefore defined by an existing trail marker. The route is easy and has only slight, gradual climbs. As a circular route, it eventually returns to Trokavec. The combination of the village center, marked beginning, and gentle elevation profile shapes the course of the tour, without a steep climb determining the character of the route.

Former Military Use and a Place to Stop for Refreshments

The landscape around Trokavec also contains references to a military training area that existed there from 1927 to 2016. This former military use extends the historical context beyond the village center into the surrounding landscape. The period from 1927 to 2016 is therefore part of the documented history of the area. In Trokavec, Hospůdka Na Pančavě offers a place to stop for refreshments along the hiking route.
