Trhanov between castle history and Chod heritage

Trhanov combines a castle complex with a church, a village heritage zone and a route to Čerchov. Castle history, religious architecture, rural cultural heritage and a challenging mountain hike offer distinct focal points for planning your trip. Castle and church as a cultural focus

Trhanov Castle was built in 1676–1677 by Volf Maxmilián z Lamingenu as an originally Baroque summer residence. The Trhanov Castle complex is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its history defines Trhanov’s cultural and historical focus.

The historic surroundings of the castle include the Church of Saint John of Nepomuk. It was built in 1810 on the site of a chapel founded as early as 1706; the tower dates from 1818. A castle park extends north of Trhanov Castle, while a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands by the pond west of the castle. The church, park and statue create distinct accents: a sacred building, a green space and a religious memorial. During your tour of the village, you can consider these features individually. Village heritage zone and smaller landmarks

The village heritage zone of Trhanov adds to the character of the settlement. It was designated on 22 September 1995 by Decree No. 249 of the Ministry of Culture. Other notable features include a wayside niche chapel at a crossroads in Trhanov. Above the village, on the road to Domažlice, there is a wayside shrine. The Lomikar linden avenue commemorates the Chod people’s struggles with the local nobility. The village heritage zone, chapel, wayside shrine and linden avenue combine the village character, small religious monuments and Chod history. This allows you to consider smaller landmarks and historical remembrance in the village alongside the castle complex.

Route to Čerchov

If you would like to combine culture and activity, the route to Čerchov offers a different focus. It is considered moderately difficult and includes a challenging ascent to the summit. The climb defines the character of the hike and makes it an independent activity alongside visiting the architectural and memorial sites.
