Nemanice: Discover Landscapes, History and Trails

Nemanice is a place where mountain landscapes, water, protected nature and historical traces come together. Landscape between the Ridge and the Water

Nemanice lies below the Haltrava Ridge, which reaches an elevation of 882 m. The ridge separates Nemanice from the rest of the Czech territory. At the same time, Nemanice is one of five settlement segments in Zone IV of the Český les Protected Landscape Area. The area is drained by the Nemanický stream, which belongs to the Danube drainage basin. The floodplain landscape of the Nemanický stream is designated as a natural feature in Nemanice's land-use plan. The ridge represents the area's elevation, the Nemanický stream its drainage, and the floodplain landscape adds a designated natural feature to this geographical perspective. When planning walks, you can therefore view the surroundings according to their landscape forms rather than focusing on just one destination.

History and Cultural Monuments

The Baroque Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Nemanice was built under the patronage of the Stadion family from 1781 to 1784. A comprehensive renovation of the church began in 1991. The history of the village reaches further back: Nemanice was founded shortly before 1591 under the name Loužnice. The history of the building and the historical development thus offer two different approaches to the history of the village.

In Novosedly near Nemanice, the restored chapel is a cultural monument. It serves as a place for meeting, quiet contemplation and remembrance of the eventful history of the borderland. Visiting this monument complements the Baroque church with another cultural point of reference in the surroundings of Nemanice.

Hiking and Cycling

Two routes with precisely described itineraries are documented for exploring the area by bicycle. Cycling Route 2280 leads from Bělá nad Radbuzou via Bezvěrov and Šidlákov to Nemanice and is 23 km long. Cycling Route 2281 leads from Bělá nad Radbuzou via Újezd Sv. Kříže, Hostouň, Drahotín and Hvožďany to Nemanice and is 26 km long. The different lengths and sequences of villages help you compare the two options according to the desired scope. You can take the four-kilometre difference between the routes into account when planning your day. The different sequences of villages also distinguish the two routes spatially, so both length and itinerary can be considered when making your choice. The existing hiking and cycling routes in Nemanice run mainly along field and forest paths as well as Class III roads with little car traffic.

A Local Tradition

During the Nemanická LáFka, participants traditionally attempt, in pairs, to cross a running bridge over the swimming pool without getting their feet wet.
