Karle: Church, Source Area and Trails to Svatá Trojice

Karle Between Sacred History and the Source Area

Karle combines notable evidence of the local history with a source area and trails through the landscape. Particularly prominent is the Gothic Church of Saint Bartholomew, which was first mentioned as early as 1340. At the same time, the Loučná begins in Karle: The river rises here, and the “Kapka” monument stands at its source area.

The source area of the Loučná also includes a natural stone wall with built-in benches for resting. This place combines a landscape-related theme with a visible design element and thus offers another point of reference for exploring Karle. Those looking for accommodation in Karle can therefore view their stay both in terms of cultural destinations and the landscape around the Loučná.

Churches and Memorial Sites

The Church of Saint Bartholomew stands on the north side of an enclosed cemetery. A mortuary is located along its eastern boundary wall. The precise location of the structures makes the cemetery an independent part of the historic townscape, not merely the church’s surroundings.

Another sacred site is the Cyril and Methodius Chapel in Karle, near Ostrý Kámen. It is a late Baroque branch chapel from the second half of the 18th century. Svatá Trojice was a destination for pilgrims. The name Svatá Trojice goes back to a sandstone statue from 1823.

Hiking Trails to Svatá Trojice

Several trails lead to Svatá Trojice. The “Na pomezí Čech a Moravy” educational trail leads to Svatá Trojice as its fifth stop. In addition, a green-marked hiking trail leads from Ostrý Kámen via Kukle to Svatá Trojice.

The season also changes the character of the trails: In winter, a marked cross-country skiing route leads to Svatá Trojice. Thus, in addition to hiking, an explicitly winter-related option is available in connection with the same destination. At Svatá Trojice there is a hexagonal wooden shelter with a bench and a map of the cross-country ski trails in the Svitavy region. The map places the site within the region’s winter sports orientation without anticipating any particular trail or its current condition.

Forest Edge, Ridge and Viewpoint Information

Svatá Trojice lies at the edge of the forest on the Javornický Ridge. There is also an orientation board at the site with a panoramic photograph and descriptions of the places visible on the horizon. The “Na pomezí Čech a Moravy” educational trail leads to Nejsvětější Trojice, from where Ostrý Kámen and Svitavy can be seen.

Karle and the Trstenická Road

The earlier settlement of the Karle area was probably connected with the Trstenická Road.
