Veselí at the Foot of the Železné hory

Veselí lies at the foot of the Železné hory and combines nature, local history and concrete opportunities for active exploration within a compact area. The biocorridor of Veselí is particularly characteristic. It was created on the site of the former „Kuchyňka“ pond and expands the local recreational area. A former waterscape and a modern recreational space meet here: the former pond is part of the history of the site, while the biocorridor now complements the local area.

Nature along the Struha

The landscape includes the Meandry Struhy nature monument, whose cadastral area encompasses Veselí u Přelouče. The naturally developing Struha stream, its bank vegetation, the alluvial forest and the adjacent meadows are protected there. Flowing water, vegetated banks, woodland and open meadows thus come together in a single protected area. The landscape here is not limited to one section of the watercourse; the protected area also includes the adjacent vegetation and meadow areas.

Veselí as a place to stay

Road II/342 runs from Valy through Veselí towards Choltice. The Class III road Veselí–Klenovka also leads towards Přelouč. At the northeastern edge of Veselí there is a railway station on the Přelouč–Prachovice line. The roads therefore lead towards Choltice, Klenovka and Přelouč, while the railway line places the village on the connection between Přelouč and Prachovice.

History with surprising details

The first written mention of Veselí dates from 23 July 1401. The origins of Veselská tvrz date back to the middle of the 16th century; the new Veselská tvrz was built in 1559 below the dam of the Návesník pond. At the beginning of the 20th century, the former grounds of Veselská tvrz were known as „Hrádeček“. Several historical eras thus lie between the first written mention, the origins and construction of the fortress, and the later name of the former grounds. A bear mask was among the masks at the masquerade procession documented in Veselí u Přelouče on 24 February 2007. The procession took place in Veselí u Přelouče, and the bear mask was one of the masks used there.

Cycling through Veselí

For active days, cycle route No. 4127 from Třemošnice to Kokešov passes through Veselí and by the Veselí u Přelouče railway station. The designated route is 38.50 km long. The starting point and destination are therefore outside Veselí, while the route includes the village itself and its railway station. The cycle route therefore does not merely lead towards the village, but passes through Veselí on the connection between Třemošnice and Kokešov.
