Discover Litošice

Litošice offers unusual geology, forest landscapes and small historical discoveries. Anyone looking for a place in the Czech Republic with active excursions, nature observation and cultural and historical destinations will find a variety of options here: the Litošice conglomerates are part of the Železné hory Geopark, forest trails are used for cycling and as cross-country ski trails in winter, while springs, rocks and historic buildings provide destinations in their own right.

Geology between the village square and the pond

The Litošice conglomerates are a characteristic feature of the area. They occur in the village square and around Křížový rybník and are part of the Železné hory Geopark. At the Litošice–Křížový rybník geological locality, small rock outcrops form the stratotype of the Litošice conglomerates from the Cambrian period. A stratotype is the typical geological expression that serves as a reference for a rock sequence. Further Litošice conglomerates were exposed during the dredging of Křížový rybník and can now be viewed.

The locality can be reached via a walkable tourist trail more than 250 metres from the road. Semtěš–Vlčí skála is also one of the area's geological features: the site is registered as a geological locality by the Czech Geological Survey and is also an excursion geotope in the cadastral area of Litošice. Various volcanic rocks also occur in the surrounding area. From Křížový rybník, a stream winds through a valley towards Seník; along its banks are a basalt lava vein and other volcanic rocks. West of Litošice there is also an old mining site with spoil heaps.

Forest trails, sports and a spring

The forest trails around Litošice are used as cycle routes and connect Polabí with the ridge of the Železné hory. In the winter months, the surrounding forest trails are used as cross-country ski trails. This provides various forms of activity for travel planning, without limiting a stay to a single type of excursion.

There is also a sports facility directly in Litošice. It is currently used for nohejbal, tennis, volleyball, one-basket basketball and small-sided football. A quieter point of orientation is the Litocha spring in a forest hollow between Litošice and Krasnice. It has a rest area, an information board and a visitor book.

Historic sites and memories

Among the notable buildings is the Myslivna in Litošice, a picturesque structure dating from the late 18th century. Nearby, the Vedralka was built around 1800 as a hunting pavilion. Its ground floor is masonry, while the upper floor is built of wood and features a wooden veranda.

The history of the surrounding area also has a serious side. Near Litošice stands the Krasnice memorial on the shore of a pond at the place where four partisans were killed. The remains of the building in which they lost their lives are located immediately beside it. At Semtěš–Vlčí skála there is also a low, artificially arranged stone table with seating, associated with the legend of the “Žižkov stůl”. The rocks at Semtěš–Vlčí skála are used for climbing.
