Starý Mateřov – Discover Culture, the Pond and the Cycle Path

The history of Mateřov dates back to 1227. The first written mention appears in a deed of donation from that year. At the beginning of the 15th century, Mateřov was the ancestral seat of the Vladykas of Máteřov. Another historical trace is the Mateřov fortress, which stood on the grounds of House No. 1. One of the prominent cultural landmarks is the bell tower with a cross. It is registered as a cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 15360/6-2154 and has been protected since 3 May 1958. The wooden bell tower is a small, slender polygonal structure in the shape of a truncated pyramid, topped with a sheet-metal onion dome. The shape of a truncated pyramid describes a structure that tapers towards the top and ends without a point beneath the onion-shaped sheet-metal roof. Its unusual design makes it a particularly tangible detail of the local cultural history, without requiring you to visit a large site or an extensive building complex.

Another historical feature is the traditional wooden cross. It is a folk-style crucifix from the early 19th century; the body of Christ has not been preserved. The pond in Mateřov is used for recreational fishing. In winter, it is also used for ice skating and hockey.
