Discover Přelouč

Přelouč combines remarkable architectural history with clearly distinguishable routes through the town and surrounding landscape. The town is particularly interesting if you would like to combine cultural discoveries with a peaceful outdoor activity: in the town, you can expect to find evidence from several centuries. In addition, the MAGEO geological cycle route passes information boards that draw attention to the natural and geological features of the individual locations.

Architectural history with unusual details

The oldest surviving building in Přelouč is the Church of St James. Its foundations date back to the 11th century. Inside, there is an early 15th-century fresco depicting Saint Peter and Saint Paul. It was created by an artist from the circle of Master Theodoric. The church therefore offers not only a historical connection to the development of the town, but also a detail to look out for on a cultural tour.

Another architectural feature is the Protestant “American” church. It and the associated parsonage were completed in 1905; the church is based on American models. Its interior is shaped like an amphitheatre and is notable for its good acoustics. With its completion in 1905 and its orientation towards American models, it provides a clear counterpoint to the older church building. The hydroelectric plant provides a technical highlight: it still retains some of its original equipment and continues to generate electricity.

The birthplace of František Filipovský is located at house no. 9. He was born there on 23 September 1907. The specific address and exact date of birth complement the town’s religious and technical sights with a biographical place.

Two routes for different discoveries

The educational trail offers two clearly distinct options: an urban route and a nature route. Both routes run predominantly through flat terrain. On the nature route, part of the trail follows a dirt track. This allows you to choose between an exploration focused more strongly on the town and a section through a more rural setting, without changing the predominantly flat character of the routes.

The MAGEO geological cycle route is available for a bicycle trip. Along the route, 13 information boards describe the geological and natural features of the individual locations. The route is suitable for children and recreational cyclists. It therefore combines exercise with regional topics presented in an accessible way, without limiting you to simply viewing individual buildings. The cycle route broadens the focus from individual buildings to the geological and natural characteristics of the places along the way.
