Those interested in village history, walking trails and a local pond will find several points of interest in Stéblová. Two different walking routes provide guidance: a marked trail leads to Kunětická hora, while the Okruh Stéblová circular route starts at the train station and returns there. Monuments in the village square and by the railway embankment also commemorate different chapters in the village’s history.

Walking Trails with Different Destinations

A marked yellow walking trail leads about 8 km from Stéblová railway stop to Kunětická hora. The approximate distance refers to this route and its destination. If you would rather take a loop that returns to its starting point, try the Okruh Stéblová: it starts at the train station, continues just beyond the road along a sandy forest path, and follows a yellow-marked KČT walking trail back to the station.

These route descriptions answer different planning questions: the walk to Kunětická hora focuses on a destination outside Stéblová, while the Okruh returns to the train station. When choosing between them, consider whether you would prefer to include a route to a named destination or a circular walk in your stay. Stéblová also has train connections towards Pardubice and Hradec Králové; check the current timetable when planning your journey.

Village Square and Built Heritage

The Stéblová village cross stands at the southern end of the village square. The sandstone cross was erected on 17 August 1899 to mark the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor and King Franz Joseph I. Its date and the occasion make it more than a landmark in the square: it commemorates a specific event in local history.

Next to the village cross stands a fire station dating from the first half of the 20th century. Its small tower is designed to hold a bell. The cross and the fire station point to different aspects of village life: one commemorates a historical event, while the other is a building with a distinctive architectural feature. A small monument by the railway embankment near Stéblová commemorates the train accident of 14 November 1960, in which 118 people lost their lives. It adds another solemn chapter to the village’s history.

The Obecní rybník and Its Uses

The Obecní rybník, Stéblová’s municipal pond, was revitalized in 2022–2023. The work included desilting the pond and stabilizing its banks. A new monk structure, a jetty for visitors, access steps and an access ramp were also built. The work therefore ranged from improvements to the pond and its banks to newly constructed features.

The pond is also connected with local fishing: anglers from Stéblová use it for fish farming and fishing. They also hold fishing competitions there for people from the wider area. If a competition is important to your travel plans, check the current dates in advance. The revitalization work and the pond’s use by local anglers offer two different insights into its importance to the village.

Traditions Throughout the Year

The Stéblovský pohár in firefighting sport is traditionally held around the turn of July and August. According to local tradition, the late-July village feast also includes a Neckiáda on the village pond. Both events add a seasonal dimension to a visit; check the dates and current programme before your trip.
