Barchov

Barchov lies on the left bank of the Podolka stream. Dense willows growing along the stream formerly gave the place the nickname “Barchov Vrbový.” Podolka shapes the location of the village, while the willows explain its former nickname.

Veselí and the Former Fortress

Veselí is now part of the municipality of Barchov. In the past, Veselí was a fortress and a manorial farmstead. The building of the former fortress, house number 25, is privately owned. A storm changed the house in 1929: The original roof was replaced with a flat concrete roof. The 1929 storm thus marks the transition from the original roof to the flat concrete roof. Its former use as a fortress and farmstead is part of the history of the same building.

Historical Traces in the Village

In the late 15th century, there was a miller in Barchov. A cross stands beside the bell tower. The municipal library dates from 1909. The cross and bell tower form a shared local feature. The library adds a 20th-century building to the village landscape. The miller belongs to a significantly earlier period than the library, while the roof alteration of the former fortress did not take place until 1929. Historical references from different centuries thus meet in the village: the miller from the late 15th century, the cross beside the bell tower, the library from 1909, and the later alteration of the fortress roof.

Orientation in the Built-Up Area

In a large part of the built-up area, sidewalks run along Class III road 32226 and along the local roads connected to road I/2. However, these sidewalks do not form a continuous route through the entire built-up area. On individual streets, sections with and without sidewalks therefore alternate. Not every street and not every path in the village automatically has a sidewalk. The route network therefore remains sectional: one street may have a sidewalk, while another section runs without one. Anyone crossing Barchov on foot will therefore also encounter sections without a sidewalk. The specific road connection remains important when crossing the village. The sidewalk coverage described applies to a large part of the built-up area, not to every path without exception.

Activities for Children

Barchov regularly organizes activities for children. These events are part of the recurring life of the municipality and complement the established historical features of the village with a current aspect of local life. Unlike the cross, bell tower, library, and former fortress, these are not structural historical features but recurring activities.
