Svratouch

Svratouch is an interesting destination if you would like to combine landscapes, water and a rich local history in one trip. The town lies in a part of the Žďárské vrchy. The surrounding area features a long educational trail, protected wetland landscapes, a forest spring and several historic sites. This allows you to focus on different aspects during your trip without having to commit to just one experience.

Nature between the educational trail, spring and wetlands

The Krajem Chrudimky educational trail is 74 km long and has 31 information boards. Its starting point is Filipovský pramen, a forest spring in the Stará obora forest district northwest of Svratouch. The spring is one of the sources of the Chrudimka River. Its length and the 31 information boards combine an extensive route with specific information about the landscape. Chochol Pond lies on the northeastern edge of Svratouch. It has a sandy beach that invites visitors to swim on sunny summer days. This adds time by the water as a distinct travel highlight alongside nature and outdoor activities. Another special feature is the U Tučkovy hájenky Nature Monument. It lies partly within the cadastral area of Svratouch and encompasses broad valley areas with peat meadows. It protects transitional bogs, nutrient-poor calcareous fens, tall-sedge communities, wet cabbage thistle meadows and mat-grass grasslands with protected and endangered plant and animal species. The sandy beach forms a clear contrast with the peat meadows and the various wetland forms of the nature monument. Thus, the landscape impressions on the edge of the town range from the waterside to protected, wet valley areas.

History in the town and surrounding area

The town's history can also be traced through several specific buildings. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk in Svratouch was begun in 1933 and consecrated on 10 June 1935. The Evangelical Church was built in 1783–1784 as a Toleration prayer house and ceremonially opened on 20 October 1784. Its present appearance was shaped by an Art Nouveau renovation in 1911–1912. A cemetery dating from the Toleration period surrounds the church. The buildings span a period from the Toleration era through Art Nouveau to the 1930s. Since 2016, the building of the Evangelical school has housed a museum of historic motorcycles. The school building itself has been a listed monument since 1958. In Svratouch, religious history, local architectural history and the history of technology thus stand side by side in different forms. The school building combines its history as an Evangelical school with its listed-monument status and its later use as a motorcycle museum. In the surrounding area, the Karlštejn hunting lodge was built around 1770 and completed in 1776. A golf course was also laid out above Svratka and Svratouch between 1945 and 1949. The golf course complements the historic sites with a form of land use established above Svratka and Svratouch.
