Mladoňovice: Geology, Crosses, and Local Traditions

Mladoňovice is a destination whose special features can be discovered in concrete places: at a geological outcrop, at crosses and bell towers from different years, and through a locally transmitted history. This allows you to combine different interests when choosing your activities. Deblov represents geological history and a path away from the road; the memorial sites give historical events and local traditions a concrete face.

Geological Discoveries at Deblov

One particularly clearly defined natural site is the Deblov Geological Site. It can be reached via a walkable tourist path and lies more than 250 metres from the road. This location alone makes the visit its own experience of the path and landscape, without claiming that a longer route or a specific amount of time is required.

The light-coloured quartzite outcrops from the Middle Ordovician are geologically noteworthy. The site also preserves a large, relatively well-preserved bedding surface. Visible traces of biological activity in the form of tunnels of the genera Pragichnus, Skolithos, and Monocraterion have been preserved on it. The bedding surface thus connects the rock formation with directly visible traces of biological activity.

Crosses and Bell Towers with Their Own History

A second area of discovery is formed by the crosses at various locations. The cross in Pohled is the oldest cross in the municipality and dates from 1872. A bell tower, erected in 1891, stands nearby. The year 1894 stands out on the cross in Petříkovice. The cross in Čejkovice was erected in 1886 by the Vackovi couple.

Mladoňovice itself also has a cross with a specific history of its creation: it was erected in 1890 with financial support from local residents. The free-standing cross at Habrovka was commissioned in 1945 by the Buřval family from a nearby farmstead to commemorate the end of the Second World War. In Rtenín, the cross dates from 1898; a bell tower was also erected there in the same year.

The years, commissioners, and occasions distinguish the memorial signs from one another and offer you a cultural and historical perspective on local forms of commemoration.

Tradition and an Unusual Chapel Idea

Mladoňovice also has a local legend. It tells of gold mining in the past at the site of the vanished settlement of Zlatnice. The Zlatník stream still commemorates this today; its name refers to Zlatnice.

Another special feature concerns the chapel in Deblov: in 2010, the original idea arose to convert a transformer station into a chapel. Together with the geological site, this detail shows that Deblov is interesting not only from the perspective of its rocks, but also has its own cultural and historical facet.
