Sec: Reservoir, Nature Trails and Historic Discoveries

Sec combines a distinctive waterscape with protected woodland and rocky habitats, as well as historic sites. Seč Reservoir lies on the Chrudimka River in the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area and was built between 1924 and 1935. This allows you to tailor your trip according to your interests, whether you prefer water sports, trails through the landscape or cultural monuments.

Seč Reservoir and protected nature

Water skiing is available at Seč Reservoir. The Oheb Nature Reserve in the vicinity of Seč offers another way to experience the landscape. It protects natural scree forests, relict pine forests and acidic beech forests. The rocky habitats serve as a breeding ground for eagle-owls. The nearby surroundings of Seč also include Bučina and Krkanka mountains, the V Bodlinách [Seč] hill and Kotkův pupek Hill [Třemošnice nad Doubravou].

Educational trails and cycle routes of varying lengths

The Krajem Železných hor educational trail runs from Seč via Třemošnice to Ronov nad Doubravou and is 22 km long. It is suitable for hikers and cyclists. The trail has 15 information stops. The Krajem Chrudimky educational trail follows the Chrudimka River and is 82 km long in total, including the access route from Čachnov railway station. There are 31 information stops along the route, including the “Seč – přehrada” stop. The different route lengths make it easier to assess the options for a shorter or more extensive excursion.

Cycle route 4114 is also relevant for a bike tour. It runs from Seč towards Ústupky and forms part of a circular route via Ústupky, Přemilov, Klokočov, Březinky, Dolní Ves and Horní Ves back to Seč.

Ruins, churches and regional culture

The ruins of Oheb Castle feature a partially filled-in moat, remains of the fortification walls, a tower with remnants of the entrance gate and two gun bastions. In the town centre, the late Renaissance Church of St Lawrence stands on Seč’s market square. It was built between 1610 and 1620, and large parts of its interior have been preserved in their original condition.

The Church of St Stephen stands in the cemetery of Seč. The cemetery wall offers a view of the Železné hory landscape. The wider regional surroundings of Seč also include Kačina Château and the Church of St George. When choosing accommodation in Sec, you can therefore take your preferred focus into account: the lake offers water skiing and landscapes, the educational trails provide longer explorations on foot or by bike, while the ruins, market square and cemetery combine historic impressions.
