Discover Vikýřovice: Culture and Routes

Vikýřovice lies on the left bank of the Desná River. The town combines historic architecture, exhibitions, regional events and marked routes for cyclists, hikers and cross-country skiers. This allows you to plan your stay around cultural discoveries, active routes or a combination of both. The various themes are located within a manageable townscape and offer different opportunities for a varied day of travel.

Historic Sites and Exhibitions

The Muzeum silnic is based at the historic Krenišovský dvůr in Vikýřovice. The permanent exhibition “Z historie a současnosti našich silničních mostů” focuses on the history and present of our road bridges. Another permanent exhibition presents the life and work of the Klein brothers. In the courtyard are renovated road-maintenance machines and a wooden statue of Saint Christopher. The museum thus combines technical history with personal and visual insights into its exhibitions.

The Renesanční tvrz has been preserved as a solid, one-storey building with arcades; its outer walls are more than one metre thick. A fortress near Vikýřovice was recorded in 1591 in an inventory of the estates of the Losiny domain. The Chapel of Saint Anthony also recounts several chapters of the town’s history: it was rebuilt in 1777 as a masonry chapel in the Classicist style and was completely reconstructed between 2000 and 2001 after flood damage in 1997. At the chapel, architectural history and the later renewal following a major event can therefore be considered together.

The sandstone ensemble Sousoší Kalvárie has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since March 2007 and was reconstructed in 2024. The Zámeček in Vikýřovice features interesting Neo-Renaissance architecture with elements of French architectural design. Its protected status, reconstruction and different architectural styles each give these historic sites their own focus.

Cycling, Hiking and Winter Routes

The marked Nedvězí–Kladské Sedlo cycle route passes through Vikýřovice. The Šumperk–Skřítek–Velké Losiny–Šumperk cycle route also passes through the town. For winter, the 20 km-long Skřítek–Rabštejn–Hvězda–Traťovka–Vikýřovice cross-country skiing route is documented; it leads to Vikýřovice. The 14 km-long Šumperk–Anenský Dvůr–Vikýřovice–Šumperk hiking route passes through the town. The different route lengths help you compare the options for your planning without presupposing difficulty or walking time. The two cycling connections also offer different routes through the town, while the cross-country skiing route adds a clear seasonal element.

Events and Orientation in the Town

The annual Svatohubertská pouť in the Desná Valley includes a second programme section at the Sports and Community Centre in Vikýřovice. The traditional Kácení máje takes place in the park by the Zámeček in Vikýřovice. For sporting activities, the town has a football pitch, a sports hall and a multi-purpose sports field. A railway line runs east of Vikýřovice. The events therefore take place in different locations, from the park by the Zámeček to the Sports and Community Centre, while the sports facilities provide additional specific points of interest in the town.
