Historical Traces and Protected Landscape

Hynčice pod Sušinou combines impressive evidence of border fortifications with routes through a protected mountain landscape. The history is particularly vividly presented at the Hynčické lehké opevnění: the site consists of three Type 37 structures dating from 1935 to 1938. The former military installations have been prepared for visitors. A guide from the association explains the installations and answers questions, so a visit need not be limited to simply viewing them from the outside.

The historical experience also includes Bunker VIII/38/A-120 Z lom below the Stříbrná Twiggy lookout tower. It can be visited at weekends. Another distinctive feature is the deconsecrated Chapel of St. Peter and Paul, which dates from 1868. Deconsecrated means that it is no longer used as a sacred space.

Educational Trail, Routes and Viewpoints

The Hynčice pod Sušinou educational trail follows a network of preserved historic paths. It is five kilometres long and has rest areas. Along the Červená trasa, 13 information panels explain the border fortifications dating from 1936 to 1938. Those looking for a shorter historical exploration therefore have a different visiting option from the longer Kaskády prudkého potoka route.

This route can be followed from Hynčice pod Sušinou. It is 17 km long in total and has 734 m of elevation gain. The clear difference between the five-kilometre educational trail and the 17-kilometre hiking route highlights the different options for a day outdoors without losing sight of the historical themes.

Cycling and Water at Úžas Pond

There are also specific options for different types of cycling. The Trail & Enduro Park Kraličák offers mountain bikers 30 km of singletrack routes. Singletracks are individual mountain-bike trails. The YEScyklo Hynčický okruh circuit is 13.45 km long, moderately difficult, and offers views of the entire Jeseníky Mountains. The Hynčický okruh, by contrast, is designed as a circular route. In addition, a short, easy Hynčický circular trail for families starts above Úžas Pond.

Úžas Pond itself can be used for stand-up paddleboarding. The protected surroundings extend beyond individual paths and sights: the Králický Sněžník Protected Area also includes the cadastral area of Hynčice pod Sušinou. A cadastral area is a spatially defined area assigned to a locality. It includes natural forest stands consisting mainly of montane, waterlogged, and peatland spruce forests. Montane spruce forests belong to the mountain-forest zone, meaning the higher-elevation forest belt of a mountain range; waterlogged and peatland stands are shaped by moist site conditions. This landscape is complemented by wetlands with raised bogs, springs, and floodplains along flowing waters. Raised bogs, springs, and floodplains represent different forms of water-shaped landscapes.
