Supíkovice – Marble Tradition and Limestone Landscape

Na Špičák in Supíkovice is designated both as a National Nature Monument with ÚSOP code CZ07137305576 and as a Natura 2000 site with N2000 code CZ0713730. The protected area includes remnants of yew and juniper stands on a rocky ridge up to 33 m high at the summit of the 482 m-high Velký Špičák. It also features a sea of white crystalline limestone boulders, above-ground karst formations and an underground limestone cave system.

The Jeskyně Na Špičáku Cave has passages with a distinctive heart-shaped profile. This profile was formed by meltwater from a glacier. The current visitor route is 220 m long and barrier-free. In addition, the six-kilometer-long “Po stopách doby ledové” educational trail leads to the Jeskyně Na Špičáku Cave. The two routes of different lengths give you clear guidance when planning your stay around the nature and cave experience you want. The combination of a short cave route and a longer educational trail makes it possible to tailor your day in nature to the available walking time and your desired pace.

Marble, Lime Burning and Local Traditions

The Vápenka limeworks is a listed technical monument dating from 1856: an oval stone shaft-kiln complex for burning lime. It is accessible via a local road and maintained by the municipality. Supíkovice is also shaped by its marble heritage. In the second half of the 19th century, the town developed into a leading center of marble mining and processing. Because of this marble industry, Supíkovice received the symbolic nickname “Silesian Carrara.”

Living connections to local culture are represented by Supíkovické Dřevosochání, which takes place every year during the summer holidays near the Vápenka limeworks. The traditional Supíkovický Masopust was scheduled for February 7, 2026, with a masked procession and live music. In the center of Supíkovice, you can also visit the Church of Saint Hedwig. The Czech-Polish Way of Saint James runs through Supíkovice and adds a long-distance pilgrimage route to the cultural attractions.
