Náměšť na Hané – Castle, Terezské Valley and Beer Culture

Náměšť na Hané combines castle history, a protected valley landscape and an independent brewing culture. The castle grounds and the Terezské Valley Nature Reserve offer contrasting experiences: you can explore historic rooms, discover paths through meadows as well as fields and woodland, and sample regional specialities. This allows culture, nature and food to be combined as different focuses of a stay.

Castle and historical details

Náměšť na Hané Castle was built in 1766 as an early Neoclassical building of French type. The castle grounds can be visited on four circular tours. A park path with benches and lighting leads through the grounds; around the building, the castle park is connected on all four sides by linden avenues with a circular path. The Zlatý salonek contains a collection of Meissen porcelain, including a large chandelier. Two archiepiscopal carriages stand at the service entrance. The family crypt of the Kinský countly family was built in the Empire style, and its crypt contains the remains of three generations of the Náměšť-Kinský family.

The history of the town is also reflected in individual buildings. The statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary in Náměšť na Hané was created in 1709 by the Olomouc Baroque sculptor David Johann Zürn the Younger. The present-day Church of St Kunhuta followed the demolition of the old church on 26 July 1871. The foundation stone was blessed on 17 October 1871, the church building and tower were constructed up to roof level in 1872, and the solemn consecration took place on 21 October 1873.

Terezské Valley and paths through nature

The Terezské Valley Nature Reserve stretches between Náměšť na Hané and Laškov. It is an exceptionally valuable area geomorphologically, botanically, zoologically and archaeologically. During the warmer months, meadow flowers bloom in the meadows and wetlands; as early as spring, small blue flowers of the Austrian squill appear there. The Terezským údolím educational trail leads through meadows as well as field and forest paths in the valley of the Šumice River and includes sites with thermophilic plants. Depending on the season and the route chosen, the valley therefore offers different opportunities for observing nature.

Beer, regional cuisine and orientation

For a culinary break, the Náměšťský pivovar grounds offer a brewery restaurant and a garden seating area. In addition to beer, smoked and grilled specialities are served. The Pivovar Jadrníček brewery produces beer using traditional methods and recipes, exclusively from Czech ingredients. The microbrewery also provides visitors with a smoke-free beer hall with Wi-Fi and 30 seats. A castle visit, nature walk and regional cuisine can therefore be considered as different components of a day.

Náměšť na Hané has a bus stop and a railway station. From both stops, you can reach the castle via the red-marked hiking route in approximately ten minutes uphill. The available paths and approximate walking time help put the journey and the start of the castle visit into perspective.
