Hilly landscape in the nature park

Hraničné Petrovice is located in the Jívovská vrchovina highlands in the southwestern Nízký Jeseník at an elevation of about 580 m. The landscape is characterized by broad, rounded watersheds and deeply incised stream valleys. The municipality lies within the Údolí Bystřice Nature Park. Around the village, predominantly coniferous forests, fields, meadows, and pastures alternate; the landscape is shaped by agriculture and forestry, with cattle kept extensively on the pastures. As a result, the village combines open agricultural areas with forest and valley landscapes.

The area also offers specific opportunities for observing nature. Legally protected bird species found here include the black stork, stock dove, Eurasian sparrowhawk, Montagu’s harrier, northern goshawk, common raven, and Eurasian eagle-owl.

Meadows and paths for your own discoveries

The Domašovské Meadows are a distinctive landscape area. This important landscape feature extends into the municipality of Hraničné Petrovice and consists of wet foothill meadows with protected and endangered plant species.

A blue-marked hiking trail between Domašov nad Bystřicí and Huzová runs through the center. A green-marked hiking trail, by contrast, runs along the western edge of Hraničné Petrovice between Šternberk and Svatý Kopeček. The two routes therefore provide different reference points for planning your own walks and excursions. For an outing, this makes it possible to compare two different starting situations: one trail leads through the center, while the other runs along the western edge of the village. Their respective endpoints indicate different directions.

The Petrovická alley is also part of the village landscape, a more than 250 m long avenue along a field path. The path leads from the village past the Pietà erected in 1870. The avenue was planted on April 23, 2016, exclusively with native and traditional woody plants.

Church, Pietà, and local history

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul stands at the highest point of Hraničné Petrovice, at an elevation of 590 m, on the road between Šternberk and Domašov nad Bystřicí. The single-nave building has a five-sided presbytery and a 40 m high tower on the west side. The church thus combines a prominent location with clearly recognizable architectural details.

The Pietà group was created in 1870 beside the old road toward the former village of Hraničné. It bears the German devotional inscription “Schmerzens Mutter bitt für uns” (“Sorrowful Mother, pray for us”). Together with the Petrovická alley, it forms a cultural and historical point of reference away from the church architecture.

Orientation for your stay

Turistická základna includes a fenced garden suitable for various sporting activities. The surrounding private properties may not be entered. When choosing accommodation, you can base your decision on how you wish to spend the day: local history and architectural heritage are represented by the church, while meadows, forests, and the two marked trails provide access to the natural surroundings.
