Discover Horní Moštěnice
Horní Moštěnice combines Baroque history, archaeological traces, distinctive garden culture, and routes for cycling and hiking tours. This gives you different starting points for planning your trip: you can explore regional history, include cultural events, or take a closer look at the routes of marked trails.
Culture and History in Horní Moštěnice
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a Baroque building in its present form, dating from 1757 to 1792. Another historical landmark is Švédské šance. The remains of the earthworks of a fortified Swedish military camp from 1643 have been preserved there. Švédské šance is also designated as an important archaeological site in Horní Moštěnice. The name describes the historical and archaeological character of the site without presupposing any particular form of visit today.
The Zámeček also represents the site's eventful architectural history. After extensive renovations during the communist era, only part of the façade remains. When exploring the site, you can thus connect a preserved architectural element with the changes that have shaped the building over time. Hodové slavnosti are held regularly in Horní Moštěnice, adding a recurring local tradition to the historical themes.
Garden, Mineral Water, and Cultural Events
The Zámecká zahrada offers a distinctive connection with nature and culture. A protected ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) grows there; it is more than 170 years old and has an unusual crown shape. Cultural events are occasionally held in the Zámecká zahrada. When planning your trip, you can therefore mentally combine historical themes and individual cultural dates with a visit to the garden without anticipating the event dates.
Hanácká kyselka is another local attraction. It is the best-known of the local mineral water springs. Together with the Zámecká zahrada, the ginkgo, and the historic buildings and archaeological sites, it forms part of a townscape where nature, regional tradition, and history stand closely alongside one another.
Cycling and Hiking on the Edge of the Town
A recommended cycling route and a yellow-marked hiking trail run along the northeastern boundary of Horní Moštěnice, from Újezdec via Švédské šance and Horní Moštěnice to the connection with the blue trail toward Karlovice and Stará Ves.
For longer cycling tours, the Páteřní cyklotrasa of the Moštěnka Microregion includes a section from Horní Moštěnice via Beňov, Prusy, Čechy, and Domaželice to Dřevohostice. If you are looking for accommodation, you can therefore first determine your preferred focus: the cultural attractions are located in Horní Moštěnice itself, while the designated cycling and hiking connections suggest a different type of day planning.
