Bludov between Culture, Forests and Thermal Waters

Bludov offers a variety of reasons to stay: a Neoclassical pilgrimage complex, church and château history, wooded landscapes, an educational trail and a natural thermal spring. There is also a children’s museum, cultural events and a natural swimming area with beach volleyball. This allows you to plan your days according to your interests, alternating between historical discoveries, walks and special places in the region.

Pilgrimage, Churches and Château History

The Boží Tělo site is a Neoclassical pilgrimage complex featuring the Church of Boží Tělo, the Lourdes Chapel of the Virgin Mary, a wayside shrine, the Stonův Cross and a Stations of the Cross route. Bludov Castle is another important historical site. It was probably built around the middle of the 13th century and was conquered and destroyed by Matthias Corvinus in 1471. Its ruins lie on Hradisko Hill near Zámeček.

St George’s Church features a ceiling painting from 1895 created using an industrial painting technique considered unique throughout Moravia. Next to the church is the Žerotín Crypt, containing the remains of Karel the Elder of Žerotín. The crypt can be visited by prior arrangement. Bludov Castle’s orangery is also noteworthy: it is one of the oldest surviving orangeries in northern Moravia and the Czech Republic. Cultural events are held in the hall of Bludov Castle.

When visiting the castle, you should distinguish between the different sightseeing options. The interior of Bludov Castle can only be visited on a few occasions, while the site’s historical associations are reflected in the orangery, church and castle ruins. Pradědovo dětské muzeum is also a good option for an outing with children. It is described as the first regional children’s museum in the Czech Republic, is suitable for all weather conditions and is open year-round.

Educational Trail and Natural Environment

Bludovská stráň is a wooded slope approximately 3 km long and a significant landscape feature registered on 20 June 1995. The Bludovská stráň educational trail runs through this area as a 4.5 km circular route. Walking slowly, it takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. The listed starting points are the U zámku car park, which also has a bus stop, and Bludov railway station. This makes it possible to incorporate the circular route into your day plan using different forms of transport, without presupposing a particular length of stay.

Gryngle Nature Park also adds a special perspective to the natural experience: it provides a habitat for numerous bird species, including rare forest owls. Those looking for activities beyond forests and landscapes can play beach volleyball at Vlčí důl natural swimming area.

Thermal Waters in Lázně Bludov

On the grounds of Lázně Bludov, a mineral thermal water of the sulfate-chloride-sodium type rises as a natural healing spring. This precise classification also makes the site interesting for visitors who want to explore Bludov’s spa and water-related aspects without focusing their stay on a single theme. Together with the cultural sites, educational trail and natural areas, it creates a varied picture of the destination.
